In addition to regular equipment repair and maintenance duties, the Shop Lead will report directly to the Transportation Manager and be responsible for communicating with management on day-to-day running of the truck shop, including but not limited to: parts purchasing, inventory, and safety observations. Must have or be willing to obtain Class A CDL.

Responsibilities:

Prioritize, schedule and perform regular equipment repairs as reported by delivery personnel and as required by PM schedule.

Review plans for major repairs with Transportation Manager prior to taking action.

Tracks performance of all mechanics to communicate to Transportation Manager.

Observe and review operations to suggest improvement of processes.

Adheres to all OSHA Safety Requirements and DOT regulations as pertains to truck repair and requirements. Reviews CSA records with Transportation Manager and communicates results back to mechanics. Helps to develop next steps for compliance.

Ensure PM schedules are followed and maintain records of equipment repairs and inspections as required by DOT.

Maintain vehicle maintenance jackets.

Negotiate with vendors, purchase parts and equipment. Manage parts inventory to budget as presented by Transportation Manager. Review inventory & annual budget quarterly with Transportation Manager.

Work with Transportation Manager to determine "life" expectancy of equipment and follow cost control.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Formal education - high school diploma or GED required. Formal diesel technology training preferred.

On-the-job experience - 5 to 10 years of truck, trailer, refrigeration and mechanical experience, including, but not limited to, trouble shooting and Power Systems, Electrical, Brake, Suspension, Air Systems, Drive trains, Clutches, Steering Assemblies.

Must possess valid CDL or obtain one within 90 days of employment.

Knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety regulations as pertains to heavy truck equipment.

Experience helpful in inventory control and purchasing of parts, etc.

Ability to use computer for email, internet searches, basic Word and Excel knowledge.

Read, write and speak English as it relates to essential functions of the job and safety regulations.

Ability to perform basic math calculations.

Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening.

Physical Requirements

Frequent standing/walking up to 1 mile during work shift.

Frequent lifting, 10-100 lbs.

Frequent bend/twist at waist/knees/neck throughout work shift.

Occasionally must squat/kneel/crouch working in cramped quarters and awkward positions while determining repair maintenance needs and assisting mechanics.

Constant use of both hands/arms in gripping, perform gross and fine finger manipulations.

Constant use of sight, speech and hearing abilities while performing essential job functions, supervising activities of others.

Occasional climbing of ladders/platforms while inspecting work, determining maintenance needs, etc.
