Job Description:

Position: Supervisor (Telecom and Field Area Networks)
Location: Ohio, PA, WV, NJ
Duration: Full-Time/Direct-Hire

Apex Systems is seeking a Supervisor for our Telecom and Field Area Networks (FANs) team. These network communications systems primarily support Supervisory Control & Data Acquisition (SCADA) traffic for substations and T&D line devices that perform functions such as line switching & advanced Smart Grid functions. Responsibilities include leading the team with architecture, engineering, design, implementation, operation, maintenance, regulatory compliance, and ongoing reliability of Radio Frequency, Cellular & Network communications and encryption technologies used to support those networks.

Required Skills/Experience:

• Technical experience in some area of telecom: Radio Frequency (RF), OR cellular OR utility
• Strong interpersonal communications, including presentation, training, and mentoring skills.
• Wireless transport hardware and systems (e.g. cellular, 700/900 MHz radio networks, mesh networks, etc.)
• Strong project management skills and experience in the coordination of multi task projects.
• Leadership/Management experience

Preferred experience:

• Encryption technologies and protocols
• Regulatory compliance requirements impacting substation and field area networks
• SCADA communications
• EMS, GMS, DMS, and Remote Terminal Units (RTUs)
• Network management tools, Operations Manager, Project and Portfolio Management (PPM), and other tools used to monitor, control, & track the performance of these systems and manage the work

Daily Responsibilities

• Provides daily supervision and guidance to the substation and field area networks group that is responsible for the platforms that deliver secure, reliable, and high performance communications for systems required to monitor, control, and protect transmission and distribution systems.
• Leads a high performing team, manages a complex array of technologies, and delivers on capital projects.
• Participates in the overall network technology planning, and communicates technology changes, opportunities, and constraints to a business-oriented audience.
• Directs personnel actions in accordance with the company's guidelines and procedures. Performs regular check-in conversations with employees and provides coaching and feedback on priorities, performance, expectations, professional development, and career growth. Develops cohesive and effective teams.
• Ensures that change management procedures are properly followed.
• Maintains strong relationships with business units, to enable effective prioritization of work based on established business needs.
• Executes work to assure on-scope, on-schedule, and on-budget performance.
• Available during non-standard hours when project schedules and maintenance issues dictate.

Additional Responsibilities

• Accountable for the upgrade and expansion of field area network communications, centered around Energizing the Furture (EtF), Legacy Circuit Replacements (LCR), Grid Modernization, and related projects.
• Delivers high-performance/high-availability communications, monitored to achieve service expectations, scalable to business needs, and that have appropriate redundancies for diverse communications.
• Oversees substation and field area network projects to ensure computing and network architecture solutions are resilient, secure, well integrated, and comply with technical strategy.
• Supports the operational performance and maintenance of existing substation and field area networks as well as design and delivery of new products/product enhancements.
• Coordinates closely with Cyber Security, Security Technologies & Engineering, and EMS/GMS/DMS Operations teams to ensure that policies and sound security practices are followed.
• Coordinates with and receives support from the IT Networks group for transport and fiber services that are necessary to support the substation and field area networks.
• Coordinates with Operating Companies, FEU/FET support groups, and external entities to accomplish objectives.
• Ensures technical standards and regulatory requirements are documented, implemented, and enforced.
• Responsible for CIP compliance as it pertains to communications devices within the scope of responsibility.
• Champions compliance for all network systems and maintains strong relationships across IT and Corporate compliance teams to ensure proper application of regulatory requirements to the network environment.
• Maintains functional knowledge of technology, technology changes, and emerging business requirements.

Education:
• Bachelor or Associates Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications or related field with 5+ years related experience required. In lieu of a degree, 8+ years of related experience required.
