Assists in all areas of central processing to promote efficient utilization of instruments and equipment.
Disassembles and clean instruments and equipment after surgical/endoscopic procedures.
Inspects the equipment and instruments for completeness and proper function. Assembles and prepares instruments and equipment for sterilization.
Processes equipment and instruments in appropriate sterilizer and returns to circulation.
Assists in maintaining proper inventory levels of instruments, equipment and supplies.
Transports equipment, instruments, supplies, specimens and other items as required.
Maintains proper records for all sterilization equipment.
Participates in unit and center performance improvement activities.
Assists with orientation of other Surgery Center personnel as appropriate.
Assists in development of policy and procedures pertaining to Central Processing area.
Completes annual competency testing successfully.
Works with Perioperative Charge Nurse, physicians, and staff members to accurately build and maintain all Doctor Preference Cards.
Collaborate with the surgery schedulers to ensure that a preference card is available for every scheduled procedure.
Assess needs for equipment or products based on the scheduled procedures and physician requests.
Ensures all equipment borrowed/received from outside sources has been processed, sterilized, and returned promptly.
Obtain purchase order numbers for deliveries of specialty items.
Follows system and department policies and procedures with special attention to attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge, and safety.
Completes mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department specific competencies and requirements. Maintains applicable certification/licensure. Maintains current Basic Life Support (BLS). Registered Central Service Technician or secures same within one year of employment/transfer.
