BASIC FUNCTION

The Maintenance Technician performs routine maintenance, diagnostics/troubleshooting and repair on vehicles for which a maintenance request has been received, including Company and owner/operator tractors and trailers, as well as equipment purchased from the Company. All maintenance and repairs on equipment are performed with driver and vehicle safety as the primary focus, including compliance with all DOT standards. This position also completes any welding necessary for repairs and upkeep of equipment.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Perform routine maintenance on equipment, including scheduled Preventive Maintenance (PM) services, diagnostics, troubleshooting and repair on the following:

1. Cummins engines with Cummins Insight and Cummins Quickserve

2. Eaton Auto transmissions with Service Ranger 4

3. ABS and roll stability with various vendor diagnostic programs, as well as Lite Check Inspector 920

4. Peterbilt equipment with ESA program

5. Drum and disc brakes

6. Wheel ends, hubs, bearings and wheel seals

7. Tire, wheel and alignment

8. Emergency shut offs/passive shut downs with Base System and Smart Hose

9. Pumps and compressors with Blackmere Systems, Banjo and IR

10. Internal valves, global valves, relief valves and plumbing

11. QualComm

12. Suspensions for air ride and spring ride

13. Must have knowledge of the operation/function, maintenance and repair of all of the above.

B. Build hoses under the supervision of a Registered Inspector.

C. Utilize maintenance and inventory software to create purchase orders, track time on work performed, obtain instructions on work to be performed, parts used and meter entered, as well as complete work pending.

D. Maintain records in maintenance and inventory software of repair and maintenance of equipment, machinery, facilities and vehicles to meet OSHA and DOT standards and guidelines.

E. Prepare hazardous material tanks for a change in product in compliance with hazardous materials guidelines.

F. Through the use of welding equipment, modify parts as necessary to repair vehicles, tanks and other equipment while maintaining OSHA mandated safety requirements.

G. Attend Company and industry-related meetings, as required.

H. Establish individual goals which are aligned with the Company's business strategies and objectives.

I. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE

A. Timely completion of specified maintenance on vehicles and tanks.

B. High degree of attention to detail.

C. Continual awareness and concern for vehicle and driver safety.

D. Accurate, complete and timely entry of data in maintenance and inventory software.

E. Adherence to OSHA and DOT standards for vehicle maintenance and handling of hazardous materials, including compliant documentation and records.

F. Acceptable or above inspection results for vehicles on which maintenance has been performed.

G. Maintenance of Company information in a confidential manner.

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

A. Ability to bend, push, pull, reach, kneel, squat, grip and climb consistently.

B. Ability to remain reclined on concrete surface for extended periods of time.

C. Ability to lift and carry up to 100 lbs. at a time on a regular basis.

D. Ability to grip and torque variety of tools on a regular basis.

E. Ability to maintain extended visual attention, including depth perception.

F. Confined space entry into portal of up to 18” required for tank inspection and repair.

G. Ability to tolerate strong chemical smells, such as ammonia, nitric acid and others.

H. Consistent visual focus on components of vehicles and equipment.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND CONDITIONS

A. The working environment is primarily in a vehicle maintenance shop and surrounding area where vehicles are parked.

B. Exposure to various chemicals, hazardous materials and associated fumes.

C. Considerable amount of dust, dirt, grease and other by products of vehicle maintenance.

D. Caution necessary when using wide variety of tools, including but not limited to welding and torching equipment.

E. Occasional travel required to pick up or deliver equipment, as well as safety meetings and other events.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

A. A High School Diploma or equivalent required.

B. CDL, preferably with hazmat endorsement.

C. Mechanical experience or ability preferred but not required.

EQUIPMENT AND TOOLS

A. Computer and peripherals.

B. Small hand tools, including but not limited to driver impacts, band saw, welders, torches and socket.
