JOB SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: The National Guard offers jobs in many areas that you can use in your civilian life. Employer wants to hire someone who already has the skills to do the job! There are many positions available to choose from.
EDUCATION: Avoid Student Loans! Every person who enlists receives the Ohio Army National Guard receives a 100% tuition scholarship to any public college and many technical schools in Ohio. There is NO cap on tuition to public schools. If you attend a private college, the Ohio Army National Guard will pay up to the average 100% tuition cost of a public school. This is a National Guard benefit that no other branch offers.
You can attend college and not pay a penny for tuition!
MONTGOMERY GI BILL: As a soldier in the Guard, you will also receive the GI Bill of $384 per month (tax free) while youre in college.
Get extra pay while attending college!
PAY: As a new soldier in the National Guard, you would earn about $210.00 for your weekend drills and about $1,638/month at Basic Training. On average, you work 39 days a year one weekend a month and 2 weeks every summer! Your pay increases the longer you are in and when you are promoted! Pay begins the day you enlist, even if you are STILL in high school!
SERVICE TO COMMUNITY AND COUNTRY: We are the only military component with a dual mission. We are called upon to help our State in times of emergency (floods, hurricanes, tornados) and our Country at times when our national security is at risk. NO OTHER BRANCH has this kind of responsibility.
