Responsibilities

Clearance Requirement: Due to the nature of the work, candidates for this position need to be a U.S. citizen and capable of obtaining and maintaining a DoD Secret level security clearance.

Do you want to be part of a proven team working on the next generation of space launch vehicles providing access to space? If yes, then this is an excellent opportunity to utilize your strong mathematical and programming skills to perform structural dynamic response analysis of cutting-edge National Security Space (NSS) missions for both the payload and launch vehicle in support of critical space missions for the U.S. Government. Join a team of highly skilled structural analysts (rocket scientists!) performing Independent Validation and Verification (IV&V) tasks for classified payloads launching on ULA Atlas V, Delta IV Heavy, and Vulcan launch vehicles as well as SpaceX Falcon 9, Falcon Heavy and, one day, the in-development Starship launch vehicle. You will be performing sophisticated computer analyses simulating launch from Liftoff through payload separation. Specific tasks include assembly and checkout of finite element models, processing and verification of forcing functions, development and implementation of coupled loads analysis (CLA) methodologies and performance of advanced coupled loads analyses.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates will have the following:
  • Good academic credentials from an accredited engineering university with a Master's or PhD degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or Civil Engineering. Candidates with a B.S. degree may be considered with strong work experience.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a small team to organize, analyze, document, and present findings both to internal and external customers required.
  • Training/experience in numerical simulation codes including Matlab is required and computer programming experience using Linux based systems is highly beneficial.

  • Programming expertise using Matlab, Python, Perl, DMAP, or other codes is beneficial.
  • Familiarization or coursework involving structural dynamics, component mode synthesis methods, transient and frequency response analysis, modal testing and correlation, vibration, shock or acoustic test, and/or processing of flight data is relevant to the work.
