As the

Data Scientist, you will become an integral part of our Emerging Technologies – Data Science team. You will develop a broad knowledge of Property and Casualty Insurance knowledge in order to assist customers. You will also work with cross functional teams to assist in facilitating our analytic solutions. Additionally, you will:
  • Build upon a combination of Python, R, or SQL language skills in order to better understand how queries work and are implemented in our practices
  • Utilize natural language processing and text mining techniques to transform unstructured text into normalized, structured data suitable for analysis or to drive machine learning and deep learning algorithms
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, and IT teams to solve problems and identify trends and opportunities
  • Develop data transformations and manipulations in Python or R to fit our business needs
  • Build, assess, and validate predictive models
  • Present analysis results in table, plots, or other means to help with interpretations

What You’ll Need to be Successful:
  • Strong academic credentials with a degree in statistics, mathematics, computer science, or other quantitative area of study
  • Knowledge of machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, pipelines, and engineering architecture
  • Experience manipulating large data sets using SQL, Spark, or similar
  • Hands on experience working with big data solutions and/or cloud technology (Hadoop, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform)
  • Knowledge of GIT and version control to promote reproducible research standards
  • Detailed understanding of building good technical solutions and the ability to galvanize a technical team into solving a problem, breaking large projects into smaller pieces to meet deadlines, and converting ideas into testable hypotheses and/or next steps
  • Strong sense of intellectual curiosity balanced with humility, drive, and teamwork
  • Basic analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Intermediate/advanced understanding of syntax and programing logic (Python preferred)
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team with professionals at all levels
  • Self-motivation and initiative
