The Database Administrator's role is to design, install, monitor, maintain, and performance tune all corporate databases (development, test and production) while ensuring high levels of data availability. This individual is also responsible for contributing to and implementing database policies and procedures to ensure the security, integrity and availability of databases and their accompanying software.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Under general direction:



Database Administration

  • Managing, monitoring and maintaining company databases.

  • Making requested changes, updates and modifications to database structure and data.

    • Develop and maintain new databases, including schema, tables, indexes, views, functions, stored procedures, security, resource requirements, and other aspects.

    • Automate maintenance and other tasks using SQL Server Agent.



  • Ensuring database security, integrity, performance and system availability.

    • Maintain index and maintenance scripts to stay within maintenance windows.

    • Recommend tools for enterprise-wide monitoring of all SQL Server instances and develop and monitor database performance.

    • Maintain data encryption at rest and in motion encryption for all database servers, including SSL certificate generation and signature.

    • Benchmark baseline performance for all corporate database servers and related environment.

    • Diagnose production problems on all corporate databases, including root cause diagnosis and correction.

    • Patch and upgrade all database server instances as needed.



  • Maintaining database backup and recovery infrastructure.

    • Maintain full, differential and transaction backup process.

    • Maintain automated restore scripts which handle Point in Time Restore (PITR) for Full, Differential, and log files.

    • Participate in Disaster Recovery (DR) activities.



  • Provides guidance during the development and enhancement of production applications including working with it development team during the application development life cycle.

  • Prioritize work according to the business needs.

  • Maintain company-wide SQL Server licensing assignment and tracking.

  • Perform evaluations of existing and proposed application design and code for database accuracy, capacity, maintainability and performance. Provide detailed feedback on DB improvements.

  • Analyze projects and design ways to improve their efficiency and accuracy.

  • Ability to create and maintain technical documentation.

Expertise May be Required but not limited to Storm Water/erosion and sediment control and associated BMP\'s Water Quality Wetlands Grading and Landscaping Oil spill prevention controls & counter measures Industry recycling programs and technology Solid waste disposal CAMA rules and policies Major Job Duties and Responsibilities Works under general direction with minimal supervision Serves as a subject matter expert and provides technical expertise and judgement to resolve basic environmental issues for the Transmission Organization Assist in response and preparing reports to inquiries from regulators, property owners and customers concerning land disturbing activities associated with Transmission construction and maintenance projects Conducts site Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) inspections and environmental audits for assigned projects and assist Transmission Crews, Contract Crews and R&PM Oversight personnel in doing the same Assist Transmission Siting & Permitting with field input in preparing permit applications for new projects Maintains current knowledge on associated environmental laws and regulations and a working knowledge on the scientific and technical aspects of regulatory requirements and how they may impact Transmission projects, maintenance and operations. Provides support necessary to ensure that Transmission projects, jobsites and associated company operations are in compliance with federal, state and local environmental laws and regulations in addition to corporate environmental policies and procedures. This support includes identifying and assisting in the resolution of company, customer and property owner issues associated with Transmission project and maintenance work including but not limited to working with regulators, grading and site restoration contractors, local Government agencies and various Duke Energy organization, e.g. Project Management, Work Management, Engineering, Land Agents, Asset Protection, etc. Tracks, monitors and reports on all open environmental and construction permits assigned to Transmission. Provides regulatory requiredand internal environmental reports, project reports, event reports and associated correspondence as necessary. Supports the accomplishment of work unit goals and enhances company reputation through effective planning, organizing, communicating and scheduling of environmental work activities.
