GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Performs general laundry duties and distributes clean linen to units as directed by the supervisor.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Treats stained articles with stain removing agents before washing as indicated.
Hangs clothing that does not require pressing and irons articles as required.
Operates washers using establishes formulas and following instructions for operation of machines.
Washes contaminated clothing according to special procedure to prevent contamination and spread of disease.
Folds or hangs personal clothing according to floors and has ready for delivery.
Inspects laundry for wear and tear, sets aside for repair. Disposes of only at supervisors request.
Takes all laundry to be repaired or have name tags attached to sewing room, picks up and places on appropriate carts.
Washes, dries and returns Housekeeping and Dietary rags and mops.
Cleans and maintains washing and drying equipment and work area daily.
When repairs of equipment are needed, makes out a maintenance requisition and notifies supervisor.
Collects, sorts soiled linens.
Folds, counts and stacks linens according to units, or for shelving in linen supply room.
Keeps records of linen usage by department if directed to do so.
Puts linens on carts and distributes to units according to their daily predetermined needs.
Reports linen needs to supervisor.
Attends in-service meetings when appropriate.
Knows procedures for fire and safety and participates in fire drills and emergencies as warranted.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Ability to read and understand English. Ability to understand instructions and recognize the importance of cleanliness and sanitation.
