Position : Coordinator, Group Exercise Parker Hannifin Downtown YMCA

Pay Rate : $12-12.50 per hour

Hours : 27.5 per week

Description : YMCA of Greater Cleveland has an immediate need for a group exercise instructor who will be responsible for planning and delivering safe, effective and motivating classes.

Instructors need to be knowledgeable, professional, dependable, and responsible. They must promote class participation, ensure member engagement and show a sincere concern for class participants.

Job Responsibilities :

Design classes that adhere to the designated format and are constructed to be appropriate for the participants' abilities.

Teach scheduled classes with energy and enthusiasm.

Demonstrate skills being taught in class, explain them clearly to class members, and work at skill level and intensity level appropriate for the particular class.

Instructors are to emphasize the members' workouts, not their own.

Frequently and consistently demonstrate multiple movement modifications, and repeatedly encourage members to modify movements and work at their own pace.

Monitor intensity, technique, proper form, and hydration throughout the class.

Consistently utilize clear and easy-to-follow verbal and physical cues in advance of a movement change.

Maintain positive rapport with participants (and parents of participants, if applicable).

Conduct classes in such a way as to encourage member engagement and interaction.

Notify supervisor of any problems relating to the class, including program outcomes, impact, tracking, equipment, member service.

Notify supervisor of any faulty equipment or unsafe conditions.

Be responsible for the safety of all participants; knows emergency procedures and the location and proper use of emergency equipment.

Qualifications :

Current certification in CPR / AED for Adults, Children and Infants and First Aid.

Current certification in Foundations of YMCA Group Exercise or current Group Exercise certification from an organization approved by the YMCA of Greater Cleveland.

Must possess current certification (if available) and / or documentation of training in the specific class format.

Must be proficient in and able to demonstrate and perform specific components of the program as they relate to the target participant group.

Demonstrate effective public speaking ability and group leadership skills.

Successfully complete YMCA Healthy Lifestyle Principles.

General knowledge of body mechanics, exercise physiology, anatomy, and nutrition.

High school diploma or equivalent required, college or advanced course work preferred.

Have knowledge of YMCA policies / procedures and current program offerings in department.

Possess good organizational skills, the ability to work effectively with others as part of a team, ability to work independently, and the ability to adapt to a changing environment.

Be customer service focused and willing to go the extra mile. Must possess interpersonal skills to relate to diverse groups.

  • Works collaboratively with multidisciplinary care team staff across the continuum of care for high risk patients. Provides coordination of care and disease management longitudinally to patients with chronic condition(s) or episodic care of a surgical population. Focuses efforts on patient outreach and coordination of care for a panel of patients to achieve optimal outcomes and promote wellness, decreasing preventable ED visits and readmissions while improving patient satisfaction.
