where you can contribute to NASA's effort to return to the moon by
2024 by supporting electrical power system architecture and
development. This branch is also responsible for creating and using
computer models to design and analyze systems that will power future
advanced spacecraft, crewed space capsules like Orion and surface
systems on the Moon or Mars.Learn more about this agencyResponsibilities
Defines and develops requirements and perform trade studies to
optimize power system sizing and operation at specific lunar
surface locations and environments.
Contributes to the development of lunar illumination models and
use the models to analyze the availability of solar energy based
on lunar solar illumination data for specific lunar surface
locations, terrain conditions and seasonal variations.
Performs Electrical Power System design and analysis. Power
generation includes solar photovoltaic arrays and nuclear
systems (isotope and fission reactor) with thermal to electrical
energy conversion (thermoelectric, Stirling, Brayton, etc.).
Energy storage includes batteries and regenerative fuel cells.
Power management, distribution and control includes DC to DC
converters, battery charge controllers, peak power tracking and
cabling.
Performs systems engineering for power system design and
development.
Applies knowledge of electrical power systems and professional
systems engineering, scientific concepts, methods, and
procedures to analyze and define the requirements and technical
performance measures of projects.
Supports program/project team planning and performs contractor
insight/oversight.
Maintains liaison with engineers, scientists, or educators who
are experts in related fields to maintain awareness of the
latest trends and innovations in the field.

by nine semester hours (or the equivalent) in physics,
