Description:I. Basic Purpose: Under supervision of a physical therapist, implements specific treatment programs for individual patients in the hospital and outpatient clinic according to the principles and practices of Physical Therapy. Collaborates with interdisciplinary treatment team.II. Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Complies with established corporate and departmental policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance methods, and safety codes. Demonstrates compliance with licensing, regulatory and accrediting agency provisions as required.

Consistently demonstrates appropriate and professional communication behavior toward patients, customers, and coworkers. Cooperates with Management and peers to promote an environment of teamwork and collaboration.

Assists the Physical Therapist during patient testing, evaluations and complex procedures. Performs assessment on range of motion and strength, cognition, perception, sensation, coordination and ADL's using standard protocols.

Implements a Physical Therapy program for each patient according to the defined plan of care under the direction of a Physical Therapist. Program consists of therapeutic exercise, physical agent modalities, ADL's, work conditioning and education of preventive program. Responsible for performing at established department productivity standards.

Consults with responsible Therapist and other members of Rehabilitation Team to select the most appropriate activity program for individual patients which is based on patients' needs and capabilities under Physical Therapists' direction.

Keeps physical therapist informed of any changes in patient's status and makes recommendations for changes in plan of care as appropriate.

Provides instructions in therapeutic procedures to be continued by the patient.

Maintains required documentation on patients' progress according to standards.

Conducts and participates in training medical/nursing/allied health personnel and students in physical therapy techniques and objectives.

Maintains and cares for equipment and supplies.

Supervises Rehab Aides/Techs, volunteers and PTA students.

Completes and submits required departmental logs, forms and other documentation.

Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.

Attends meetings as required.

Maintains annual mandatory education requirements specific to position as mandated by Martin Health System.

Performs all other duties as assigned or requested.

III. Minimum Requirements (experience, training, and education): To effectively fulfill this position, candidate must meet the following requirements:

Graduation from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant Program with a minimum of an Associates Degree in Physical Therapy;

Current, valid Florida Physical Therapy Assistant License required Primary Source online verification required directly from State of Florida licensing database.

Current acceptable CPR certification required: American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Health Care Provider OR American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer OR American Red Cross Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.
