I am looking for someone who is interested in learning and working in the transportation business for about a year.
Who is this (specific) job right for?
1. Someone who is single w/no kids or pets. YES… Plenty of people in trucking have families, pets, homes, etc. The reason why I need someone who is single with no obligations is because I only have one vehicle, and I need that someone to drive full time for weeks or months at a time without either of us having to feel guilty about neglecting home life.
2. This is good for someone who is a little younger… 21-29. Again, YES… most truckers are 40 to 50+, however… I’m not a major company that can afford to pay top dollar with benefits, with time off, etc. Also, I run a lot of miles over here and normally older drivers are picky about that. If you’re reading this and you’re offended… there’s 1,000 open jobs with major companies on Indeed if you have experience driving, this ain’t the job for you.
3. Someone who doesn’t have a lot of bills (cars,apt/house,etc). The trucking market isn’t all that great right now and I like my van to be serviced properly and taken care of, so that means there’s not a lot of money to be paid out.
To be blunt, this is an opportunity for someone to see the USA, make a little money and drive a lot. I’ve done this for quite some time and it can be fun if you don’t mind being on your own and know how to make time pass by. Trucking in general isn’t for everyone… if you need to see your friends or family everyday/weekend, if you need to sleep in your own bed, if you can’t sit for several hours a day everyday, if you are paranoid of sleeping in a van at a truck stop/rest area, in a different city… this won’t work.
There are many discomforts with being (living) on the road but for the right person it can be fun and exciting and sure beats a desk job 5 days a week. In terms of money most likely it will fall between $2-3k a month.
