Job Description:

The Defense group at Leidos currently has an opening for a Spectral Scientist to work in Dayton, OH on the RECON project, in support of the NGA's Research Directorate. This is an exciting opportunity to work with cutting edge technology in an R&D environment and support critical warfighter missions. Examples of potential projects include: image reconstruction, object detection and tracking, feature extraction and classification, machine learning, signal processing, and radiometric analysis.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Apply remote sensing principles, over-the-horizon radar system concepts, and an understanding of the earth's ionosphere to conduct research focused on target tracking.
  • Research methods to combine and fuse track data generated from disparate and noisy sources and that, in the aggregate, can generate relevant intelligence information.
  • Research methods to analyze data and solve problems including: automating data analysis using machine learning, characterize existing and new sensor systems, develop new and improve data analysis techniques, propose collection strategies to address new signature development.
  • Develop research objectives, methodology, run experiments, and document outcomes.
  • Design collection experiments and compare measured results with ground truth data.
  • Collect and locate existing data and collect new sources as needed to meet goals.
  • Support informational briefings for educating scientists and managers on research outcomes and the impact on the mission.


Requirements:

  • MA/MS degree and 9 years of experience; OR 19 years of relevant experience in lieu of degree. Degree in physics or engineering strongly preferred.
  • Active TS/SCI with Poly.
  • Working experience with algorithm development, Matlab and/or Python scripting, HPC, image science, signal processing, EO/IR systems, and atmospheric science.
  • Ability to learn new concepts and apply them to meet research objectives.
