Position summary:

Technical Packaging lead on project teams to deliver innovation and renovation portfolio and/or driving continuous improvement with the factory to optimize filling and packaging line performance and packaging quality. Develops and launches packaging solutions in line with Marketing, or factory improvement initiative while ensuring packaging safety, quality, functionality and sustainability objectives are being met in a cost efficient manner. Collaborates internally and externally to build relationships in order to continuously improve technical skills and personal development.

Primary responsibilities:

New Product/Development
•Implementation of Innovation & Renovation strategy in the market. Leverages technical experience, R&D and external industry insights to develop, implement, and execute creative packaging development activities (e.g. bench top, pilot plant, and internal/external factory) to achieve project goals and deadlines to delight the consumer. Aligns with relevant PTCs on breakthrough packaging solutions as well as process or technology improvements to safeguard intellectual property.
•Drives creative structural packaging development, as part of Innovation/Renovation projects and processes that delivers on consumer insights and key Brand attributes. Uses consumer & customer centric insights. Participates in relevant consumer research activities and, for specific structural package development projects, assists in the development of appropriate consumer research plans. Uses Nestle innovation workshop for idea/concept generation and Nestle tool to assess the impact to the environment of the packaging structure.

Optimization/Process
•Packaging System Performance & Productivity

Own/identify efficiency opportunities, including short term trouble shooting, deliver projects using NCE tools, i.e. DMAIC/GSTD/SMED/VSM to continuously improve overall packaging line performance

Develop and maintain packaging process capability understanding to drive performance and quality improvement initiatives. Key role in FI pillar to drive TPM implementation. Guardian/enforcer of system standards, ensure compliance to specified requirements for packaging materials, finished pack quality, and to standard packaging line parameters. Improve system reliability (in collaboration with Maintenance) and package quality (in collaboration with Quality)
•Managing packaging line / packaging changes

Serve as Customer for capital projects, provide specification of requirements, support start-ups with involvement in FAT and SAT as appropriate. Serve as I&R liaison for packaging development, provide site leadership for testing, owner of packaging development integration to factory, ensuring quality and packaging lines performance as well as throughout the supply chain. Verify project deliverables for capital projects, development and productivity projects and provide feedback to design through appropriate qualification protocols verifying system performance. Capture relevant system/packaging changes, liaise with suppliers, Corporate and R&D functions, follow relevant business protocols. Maintain/Develop packaging specifications & CoC documentation

Additional Responsibilities:
•Drives technical matter with packaging suppliers. Participates in the selection of packaging material and equipment suppliers.Responsible for maintaining vendor and industry relationships to keep abreast of current trends and to ascertain future trends.
•Maintains/Develops packaging specifications & packaging safety documentation. Ensures that the packaging solutions comply with global specification guidelines, operates efficiently in production and provides adequate protection through the distribution system in a cost effective manner.
•Provides technical support and packaging expertise to internal customers, including Marketing, Operations, QA, Engineering, Purchasing, Packaging Communications, and others. Through assigned Brand and Manufacturing responsibilities, serves as a point-person to proactively search out packaging solutions that are aligned with Brand vision and Manufacturing strategy.
•Responsible for performing packaging production qualification trials (materials and vendor selection) as well as shipping and handling tests. Reviews and evaluates and documents results, facilitates decision making.
•Works with Quality Management to set quality attributes and evaluation procedures for packaging components, ensuring quality by design . Provides input to Operations for SOPs for packaging equipment.
•Collaborates internally and externally (marketing, T&P, R&D, suppliers, etc.) in a team environment to develop, industrialize, and launch new packaging, quality improvements, compliance, and productivity cost savings. Emphasis on growing Nestle network by seeking and maintaining relationships globally.
•Is involved with packaging graphics; has input and approval responsibilities. Responsible for providing accurate packaging specifications and templates to Packaging Communications team.
•Travel: 25%

Requirements and minimum education level:

BS in Packaging Engineering, Science, Mechanical Engineering or similar degree

Experience:

2-5 years experience preferred in packaging or related field of work in FMCG factory environment

Skills:

• Interpersonal communication skills, written and verbal communication, organizational skills, project management skills must all be strong.

• Must be capable of working in a fast-paced, team environment with minimal direct supervision and the ability to adhere to aggressive deadlines

Consumer and customer oriented, continuous improvement mindset

Administrative skills: CAPE/TOPS (packaging palletization programs), Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Globe (preferred).
