Position Description: The Store Manager at United Dairy Farmers is a customer service specialist. The primary responsibility of a Store Manager is to assure the delivery of outstanding service to every customer, either personally or through other employees. This includes both direct service to customers as well as maintenance of excellent store conditions. The Store Manager assures the safe and efficient operation of his or her store, while complying with all laws and regulations, and all company policies and requirements. Store Managers must be legally qualified under applicable state laws to conduct all sales transactions including alcohol and tobacco sales. Store Managers are full-time employees, required to work a minimum of forty-five (45) scheduled hours each week. Store Managers are scheduled to work a minimum of five (5) shifts each week. One (1) of those scheduled shifts must be other than first shift, running until the start of the normally designated third shift. A scheduled third shift may be substituted for one of the other scheduled shifts. A Store Manager is required to work a minimum of two (2) scheduled weekends per month. A weekend consists of two (2) days including Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Essential Functions:

These functions are central components of the Store Manager position. The ability to perform these functions, with or without reasonable accommodation, is essential for an employee to hold the Store Manager position.

Delivering Outstanding Customer Service: including greeting customers promptly, offering/providing assistance, suggestive selling, checking identification when selling age restricted products (alcohol, tobacco), operating money order dispenser and credit card imprinter, ringing/bagging purchases, and saying 'thank you'. Take the lead in resolving customer problems/complaints that occur in the store.

Directing Employees: monitor daily activities and administer employee counseling/recognition as appropriate; train employees personally or oversee their training by others; make recommendations for promotions, demotions, suspensions or separations; enforce adherence by employees to all company policies and procedures as well as all state and federal laws; investigate and resolve employee complaints or conflicts;

Store Staffing: recruit, interview, perform reference checks and select store employees; determine the most efficient use of allotted labor hours; schedule employees and assign job duties; train employees both individually and through group meetings.

Financial Reporting: prepare, analyze, and transmit store operating results; prepare and deliver daily bank deposits following the company's funds handling policy; monitor competitors' activities as to pricing, merchandising, advertising, etc. and recommend responsive action.

Inventory Control: ensure that the store is adequately stocked with merchandise at all times; accurately record all sales transactions, vendor transactions, ordering and pricing of product; maintain and analyze End of Day Reports produced by the computer support system on designated items; and prepare special reports or analysis as requested by upper management.

Preparing DipSide Products: including preparation of shakes/malts, cups/cones of ice cream/yogurt, sundaes, sodas and 'hand-packed' containers.

Operating Mechanical Register or POS Terminal, Gas Console: including properly authorizing and controlling gas sales, accurately registering all transactions, handling coins/currency/checks/coupons/food stamps and making change.

Security: including maintaining awareness of all persons in the store/on the lot to minimize shop-lifting and gas drive-offs, controlling cash levels in the register; following all steps in the Tobacco/Alcohol Management and Robbery/Violence Deterrence programs

Additional Functions:

While these functions are part of the Store Manager responsibilities, it may be possible to accommodate an inability to perform them. Decisions regarding such accommodations will be made by the Human Resources Manager in cooperation with the Zone Manager and District Supervisor.

Maintenance: including keeping the store and lot in a safe, clean and organized condition, clean store equipment and monitoring product and refrigeration equipment temperatures.

Stocking Merchandise: including keeping shelves, displays, milk box and freezers filled and faced, keeping dip cabinet filled, keeping coffee pots full, filling ice dispensers, properly rotating stock and checking code dates.

Any and all other activities required for outstanding customer service, safe and efficient store operation and company profitability, whether assigned by management or initiated by the Store Manager within the limits of company policy.

Minimum Requirements:

Ability to speak, hear and understand spoken English well enough to communicate effectively with customers.

Ability to see well enough to operate store equipment, including mechanical register or POS terminal, gas console, check identification documents and to use price book.

Ability to understand operating instructions for store equipment and to operate all store equipment.

Ability to prepare DipSide items using supplies located in the dip cabinets.

Ability to handle coins, currency, checks, coupons and food stamps, recognize denominations and accurately make change.

Ability to recognize numbers, count and do arithmetic well enough to complete required records.

Ability to move merchandise from storage to shelves/displays/freezers/milk box and place for proper display.

Ability to clean counters and other surfaces.

Ability to tolerate exposure to temperatures as low as -30 degrees Fahrenheit for at least 2 minutes.

Ability to tolerate exposure to temperatures as low as +33 degrees Fahrenheit for at least 10 minutes.

Ability to raise at least 10 pounds from floor level to a height of 5 feet.

Ability to place an 8' x 10' x 10' package weighing 21 pounds into a dip cabinet, the top of which is 3 feet above the floor.
