Toledo-based art/video/communications firm with 15-year track record seeking a commission only sales person, preferably with experience. Gender, status, age, national origin not important. A decision will be made on the following criteria (by order of importance):
1. A highly motivated person who believes in herself/ himself with a large appetite for income based on sales acuity in the arts/video marketplace.
2. A person has the time and energy to devote to this to build a business
3. The person probably has some income back up to sustain lead time to first sales
4. This person is highly intelligent, savvy and street smart with high integrity and ability to work in a team environment
5. The person has had some sales experience and understands the selling process as well as business development
If you don't have the above characteristics it prob is not going to workunless you convince me you can make up for any lacks in these 5 characteristics.
This person can expect to inherit the business in 5 to 7 years and with success, ownership will be transferred at a total of 49 Percent until I retire/move into a consulting role with the business
With success will also come, sooner than later, a salary plus bonus and smaller commission if desired.
With initial success, monies will be put toward a monthly draw until sich time salary and a bonus is warranted.
Right now I am thinking a commission basis of 22% on sales above 1500 on a given won project and 10 to 15% in a sliding scale below that.
In past 12 years, projects have been sold at revenue levels that range from $500 to 85k and there are 8 categories to sell within ranging from Learning Maps at the high end of the scale, learning and training products in the middle and art/video project toward the lower end of the scale. A typical video project can sell for between 1500 and 40k depending on the profile of the project.
This person will probably when fully functioning, make more on commission than a commission/salary/bonus situation that carries with it greater security than the commission only. What I am saying is, if you have a high degree of confidence in your abilities, the commission is the way to go. But it is not designed well for those not serious, motivated, and with a high degree of skill with a great personal belief in sales/business development.
The business is underperforming to its potential and a sales component is identified as the way to break out of the trap of a gifted sole practitioner (me) doing everything including selling and doing the work as well as running the business.
The model I use is an "expert model" meaning I hire 1099 contractors when work needs other expertise, but currently, there is only one employee, myself. With sales support, I project the revenue of the business will grow 3x in the first year, more than paying for compensation to the salesperson.
The business's products and services are top drawer in all regards with rabid customers and great reputation. Marketing is lacking however because of low revenues as compared to competitors. In three categories there is little competition in Toledo (portrait painting, wholesales art and explainer video). However, most sales in the past 12 years have come from international customers and nationwide in the USA.
The work is exciting, gratifying, and is very popular with buyers. There is just latent/nascent sales waiting to be exploited that derive to the benefit of the business developer and the business.
This person by definition will be a principle in the business with decision-making abilities. You will be trained properly to understand the work the projects and the customer buyer psychology if you have little to no experience in media sales
