Part-time Office Help - Legal Assistant (1318 W Main Street, Collinsville, OK)

Vacancy expired!

I'm looking for part-time help at my 1318 W Main Street, Collinsville, office locationnot the Tulsa office (sorry, but have enough helpers there). My legal assistant of the last two and half years is getting married and moving out of state; she has done good work for me and will be missed. Need help 10-20 hrs per week, but we will fix a schedule with a set number of hours and stick to that schedule on a weekly basis as best we can.

The work could be days and hours of your choosing based on your schedule but must be at some point between the hours of 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM and on weekdays (not Sat or Sun). This is good for someone either going to college or already working another job part-time, who might otherwise have difficulty finding a job to work with their schedule. It could also be for a stay-at-home mom slowly stepping back into the workforce. If you're not wanting that many hours or you have a crazy schedule, or if you're considering being an attorney or want the experience of working for one in your job history, then this might be the job for you.

In any event, I don't have more than 20 hours per week to give out; but I can likely guarantee up to that many hours if you're hired, depending on if I wind up hiring only 1 person or 2 people at something around 10 hours eachand, yes, don't apply unless you have at least 8 hours per week in your schedule to give me, and those days and hours need to be fairly consistent from week to week. However, don't hesitate to apply if you have at least that much time available to work and are interested. Different people are good at different; and, as I said, I may wind up hiring more than one person in the near future.

What is the pay? That depends upon a number of factors such as your prior work history. It might be as high as $14/hour but as low as $12/hour if you have little to no relevant work history. Pay is negotiable within that range. Understand that this is a part-time job; so there are no benefits or health insurance provided.

What skills do you need? I do not require applicants to have any sort of degree or education or experience, but I just require that they be adults (above 18), have transportation, and can show up to work. I would prefer to hire someone who can type on a keyboard at least 40 words per minute. You don't have to fly at 80 words per minute like some people do. However, it helps if you're not pecking on a keyboard as if the only typing you have ever done is on a smartphone, as you will be sitting at and doing work on a non-touch-screen desktop computer with a keyboard and a mouse. Really, that and just not being scared of computers and technology are all you need in the skills department. Surprisingly, social skills are not so important as you will be working alone most of the time and only dealing and communicating with people a few times or so on an average day.

What will you be doing? A variety of tasks and certainly not the same thing over and over. Here are examples.Looking up things online; making copies on a small copy machine; filing items in alphabetical order; typing and printing mailing envelopes and sealing documents in envelopes to go out in the mail; occasionally returning calls and e-mails with messages from me (but this part not so much, as calls generally go to voicemail and I return most calls and e-mails personally); making corrections to documents in Microsoft Word based on my clear instructions or corrections on printed documents; entering income data from people's paystubs into software (i.e., looking at something and then typing it). Yes, if you show you have the ability to do lawyer-type things, I will have you do those tasks that are a bit more brainy and less boring.

Finally, when does the job start? At some point between now and the end of June, I will hire somebody. It's probably going to be around the middle of June; but my past experience in sixteen-and-half years of being self-employed and hiring is that I always talk to at least eight people and spend a few weeks receiving applications before deciding on a person, and I always have a back-up if they change their mind, which has happened once. Also, I should note that this isn't a temp but an indefinite job. If you have something in your life where you do not plan on working the job for more than 6 months, such as you are soon graduating from college, about to move, or are about to have a baby and will want to quit when that event happens, please let me know and be upfront about that coming event just as I am being honest and open with you in this post.

Readers [and, if you have read this far already, then that is impressive]: please share this with any person you know who might be interested. If you yourself are interested, feel free to contact me. You don't have to attach a resume if you don't have one already created, but it certainly doesn't hurt if you do.
