This position is full time, 40 hours per week.

The Finance Director will report to the executive director (ED). The FD will be hands-on, organized, and will be a support for the executive team. The Finance Director will lead all day to day accounting operations, with functional responsibility for accounting, accounts payable, payroll, grants administration, and helping the team stay organized. Responsibilities also include production of financial reports; proper maintenance of accounting records; accurate processing of financial transactions; and administration of a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company’s reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with GAAP, and adhere to grant management standards.

The Finance Director will play a critical role in partnering with the executive team in strategic decision making and operations as CHANCE, a nonprofit that continues to enhance its quality programming and build capacity.

Finance Director Responsibilities:

Oversee and lead annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with the ED; administer and review all financial plans and budgets; monitor progress and changes

Effectively communicate and present the critical financial matters to the Executive Director.

Provide useful insights to help make better decisions about executing strategy and provide guidance and analysis to executive and operational management to improve results.

Maintain system of accounts and keep books and records on all transactions and assets.

Prepare and analyze accurate monthly financial and management reports, including income statement, balance sheet, budget and variance, projections and forecast and cash flow.

Managing multiple cost centers with a master budget account as a lead.

Maintain control of the following areas: general ledger, accounts payable, expense reports, billing, and payroll.

Assist in the management of grants reporting, compliance, and reconciliation.

Prepare a variety of ad hoc financial scenarios as requested.

Ensure that all financial transactions are processed accurately, in a timely manner, and in accordance with GAAP.

Develop, implement, and maintain processes and controls that are current best practices related to transaction processing.

Perform month-end closing procedures, including overhead allocations, account reconciliations, and updating schedules.

Maintain an orderly accounting filing system.

Reporting Responsibilities:

Issue timely, accurate, and complete financial statements for all levels, including Board of Directors, executive, and management.

Coordinate the preparation of audited financial statements, and all tax returns.

Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics.

Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management.

Provide management cost reports.

Provide financial analyses and models as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Strategic thinker who possesses solid business judgement and can organize and manage multiple priorities

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with others, both internally, and externally.

Excellent time management skills with the ability to perform multiple tasks and meet critical deadlines while maintaining accuracy and quality.

Ability to make complex and time sensitive decisions in the best interest of CHANCE.

Qualifications:

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field

At least three to five years of non-profit experience

One to two years’ experience in budgeting and forecasting.

Has at least 2 years’ experience with QuickBooks and Excel

A track record in grants management (not mandatory but beneficial)
