We're looking to build a diverse team of leaders who are passionate about experiential education and camp!

At Camp Tamarack we run full-time residential programming from May to the end of October and part-time work over the winter! We host outdoor school, summer camp, winter wellness, and classroom outreach programs. We do it all and we're looking for Instructors to join us for our 2019 season. We are accepting applications until positions are filled! Send cover letter and resume!

2019 Season dates include:

Spring Outdoor School: May - June 12th, 2019

Summer Camp: June 19th- August 23rd, 2019

Fall Outdoor School: September 6th - October 30th, 2019

Winter Wellness and Classroom Program: Part-time from January through the end March 2020

Our Programs:

Outdoor School: During outdoor school, Field Instructors implement a hands-on, engaging, field-based science program that is aligned with Outdoor School goals and addresses established Oregon State 5th/6th grade curriculum standards as provided. Field Instructors also lead recreational activities such as team building, canoeing, arts and crafts, and archery as well as participate in our nightly campfires.

Summer Camp: Our summer camp Program Staff lead our traditional summer camp programming! Program Staff are responsible for leading specialized classes, such as baking, outdoor skills, ceramics, paddle boarding, or snorkeling, to name a few. In the afternoons, our staff are on the waterfront, and their evenings are spent by the campfire leading skits and songs!

Winter Programming: During the winter we offer part-time employment to our staff through our classroom outreach and residential winter wellness program. We run pre and post outdoor school classroom lessons with all of the 5th-grade classes that attend outdoor school. Our Winter Wellness program is a month-long residential snow camp where we bring Central Oregon middle school students out to camp for a week filled with wellness activities as well as tons of snowshoeing and sledding!

Job Description

Instructs, mentors, and leads elementary and high school students in science programs and summer camp programming

Provides teaching training, support, supervision, and evaluation of high school volunteers

Leads group activities such as hiking, canoeing, archery, crafts, and/or team building along with traditional camp games and activities

Lifeguards during summer camp's open swim time we provide lifeguard training for those who are not yet certified

Collaborates, communicates, and participates as a member of the Camp Tamarack site team ¨utilizing appropriate verbal and nonverbal interactions

Fulfills job expectations safely, thoroughly, and in compliance with the Camp Tamarack program, policies, and procedures

Lives on site during the program season. Participates fully in all aspects of the on-site programming including

Assists with daily mealtime cleanup and dishes

Assists in site set-up, weekly cleaning, and closing each session

Responsible for inventory, care, and maintenance of program supplies and equipment

Provides backup support to other staff as needed and performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

High School Diploma or General Education Diploma

Experience teaching or leading outdoor education programs preferred

Camp experience preferred

Experience working with and supervising children and/or adolescents

Valid First Aid/CPR Card and Oregon Food Handler's Card first day of employment

Ability to physically perform assigned duties.

Working Conditions:

Employment is temporary and subject to school participation schedule. This position works in a residential camp setting. This position includes being available 24 hours to the attendees and staff members. The employee works a six-day week and is typically on duty from 7:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. The environment is rustic with potentially uneven hilly terrain, wooded trails, variable ambient light, and weather conditions. The employee must carry out his or her duties regardless of inclement weather, which can include heat, rain, snow, cold, and windy conditions.

Employee supervises groups of children in this environment, often kneeling and sitting on the ground to obtain a child-level view. The employee can be expected to carry odd objects, such as buckets of water, science equipment, and teaching materials. The employee must be able to respond quickly to emergency events any place in the camp setting and be able to maneuver in outdoors, common areas, rustic buildings, and sites. Sites may have crowded walkways or common spaces. Stairs and walkways are exposed to weather and may be slippery.

This position is a first responder in a medical emergency. The employee must be able to administer 1st Aid/CPR, requiring the ability to get to ground level or in awkward positions to administer assistance.

Housing and meals are provided. Housing is shared with other employees in assigned, rustic cabins or bunk rooms. Meals include a vegetarian option that may include eggs and/or dairy.

Salary Range: $480 Weekly
