Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for scoping project work for control systems and upgrades to equipment, developing user and design requirements, selecting equipment vendors or completing the technology design and equipment build in-house

  • Manage the installation of automation while ensuring safety, and validating the automated system for adherence to requirements and intended system operation

  • Production Support: Support automation technicians in situations where troubleshooting or technology may fall outside of their area of expertise

  • Interact with production supervisors/managers to identify areas to improve equipment throughput, flexibility, quality, safety, and/or reliability

  • Provide technical support for safety and quality improvement initiatives

  • Program PLCs, HMIs, and inspection systems

  • Manage a large capital project or multiple small capital projects concurrently

  • Manage the budget for a large capital project or multiple small capital projects and proactively identify opportunities to reduce the overall project cost

  • Design and implement modifications to the existing manufacturing equipment needed to improve operational efficiencies

  • Design, install, and validate the automated control system for new or upgraded utilities systems, compounding processes, and filling and packaging equipment

  • Compose Functional Requirement Specifications (FRS) for new or upgraded utility systems, compounding processes, and packaging equipment

  • Generate and revise standard operating procedures

  • Lead manufacturing non-conformance investigations and apply good engineering practices to reduce the risk of repeat non-conformances

  • Implement corrective and preventative actions to improve manufacturing's operational efficiencies

  • Perform risk assessment and risk mitigation activities using systematic tools

  • Ensure control systems are functioning in an optimal manner

  • Seek out new technologies to enhance the plants capability in control systems

  • Perform training and knowledge sharing with team members to strengthen department skill set

  • Daily interactions with plant operations to understand the needs required

  • Assists in capital planning for control systems replacement/upgrades

  • Coordinates contractor assistance as needed and requested

  • Assists in resolving problems with control systems for all shifts when needed


  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Engineering)

  • Experience with Wonderware

  • Experience in PLC logic and programming with any of the following PLC's; Allen Bradley, Modicon, GE Fanuc, Siemens, Automation Direct, Mitsubishi, Omron, Aromat, Toshiba, etc.

  • Ability to read and create logic and flow diagrams

  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks

  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills

  • Strong organizational and project management skills

  • Ability to work in and maintain a highly functional team environment


Preferred

  • Experience with logic auto-generation from templates

  • Exposure to highly automated/technical equipment in a manufacturing environment

  • Experience in automotive, food processing, bio-tech, pharmaceutical, semiconductor or water/wastewater industries

  • Ethernet, control net, device net, variable frequency drive and server knowledge

  • Strong organizational and project management skills
