The Stabilization and Crisis Unit (SACU), part of the Oregon Department of Human Services, is looking for dedicated and compassionate individuals to fill full-time Direct Support Crisis Specialist openings as they occur in the Eugene/Springfield area (east Springfield, River Road area, and 97401 zip code) Positions may have shifts that work days, nights or weekends or other various shifts. Overtime shifts also available.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

SACU provides 24-hour residential care and supervision to individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities, often with co-occurring mental health diagnoses, whose support needs exceed the supports offered or provided by other community-based residential programs. We provide training and support for the purpose of assisting individuals in safely transitioning back to their home community. We model positive attitudes while offering health and medical supports, psychological services, emotional and behavioral support, life skills training, educational supports, recreational opportunities and community integration. We are dedicated to providing the support necessary to maintain the quality of life, achieve the highest possible level of independence and promote social opportunities, which benefit the individuals and the community.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

You will provide direct care and/or support in a 24-hour, 7 days per week residential group home to children and adults in: behavioral management, safety, personal care, nutrition, housekeeping, health care and other daily activities within the home and the community. You will also maintain the home/property in a safe and sanitary manner. We operate over 20 residential group homes along the I-5 corridor from Portland to Eugene.

Required qualifications

To be considered for an interview, you must submit all required documents and your application materials must reflect that you meet the requirements:

Qualifications

Eighteen months of experience providing direct individual care OR training in a related field of human services (i.e., providing assistance to supported individuals or groups with issues such as intellectual and developmental disability, mental and physical disabilities, or substance abuse).

OR

A combination of education and experience.

OR

An Associate or higher-level degree in a related human services field.

Required Skills and Special Qualifications:

Possess a valid license to drive and maintain an acceptable driving record.

Be able to lift up to 75 pounds.

Knowledge of spoken, written and verbal English sufficient to communicate with managers, coworkers and supported individuals, and to understand written guidelines.

Knowledge of basic computer skills to be able to utilize software programs for documentation and communication with supervisors and coworkers.

Skill in providing clear and concise communication and documentation.

Skill in working in a team environment (be a team member).

Skill working with individuals who may experience emotional, behavioral, or physical challenges.

Skill in prioritizing a heavy and often changing workload.

Skill in resolving conflicts in a professional and timely manner.

Skill in following verbal and written instructions.

Skill in communicating verbally with others such as staff members, clients, and members of the community.

Desired Attributes:

The most qualified candidates will possess the following attributes, skills, and areas of experience as they relate to the position:

Experience following behavior and mental health supports and/or medical orders.

Experience providing supervision of individuals who experience mental, emotional, behavior, physical or medical challenges.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Successful candidates for this position will be subject to a computerized criminal history and abuse check. Adverse background information will be reviewed and could result in withdrawal of a conditional job offer or termination of employment.

The Department of Human Services is a drug free workplace.

All applicants will be subject to drug testing for Narcotics, Methamphetamine, and other controlled substances.

Your driving record must meet the qualifications of the DHS SACU Driving Policy and will be considered unacceptable for offenses, including, but not limited to any misdemeanor or felony traffic offense in the last 24 months. If you are offered this position, we will offer training and you must become certified during the 15-day New Employee Orientation class in the following:

American Heart Association First Aid/CPR Certification - Requiring you to complete compressions in a kneeling position.

Oregon Intervention System Certification (OIS) - Requiring you to get up and down from the floor while maintaining an approved restraint on clients.

Medication Administration Certification - Requiring you to demonstrate competency in completing doctor's orders, appropriate passing of medications to clients, appropriate documentation, and appropriate procedures for emergencies.

The State of Oregon is requiring all executive branch employees to complete their COVID-19 vaccination series by October 18, 2021 or six weeks after FDA approval of the vaccines, whichever is later, unless the employee receives a medical or religious exemption/accommodation.
