Occupy Medical is increasing its staffing at the County's River Avenue, Covid-19 Recovery Center with Non-Certified Medical Assistants who can provide presumptive and confirmed COVID-19 positive individuals with 24/7 access to basic necessities and skilled assistance.
The River Avenue Alternative Care Site is intended to shelter anyone in the community who cannot safely self-isolate. This could be due to an increased risk for others in the home, being unhoused or other reasons the individual is unable to self-isolate.
Medical Assistants help provide these individuals with a safe, clean space to ‘shelter in place’ during the corona-virus pandemic.
One of their most important tasks is to monitor the vital signs and symptoms of the individuals under their care and to ensure ongoing communication with Lane County Public Health, the facility Providers and/or the primary providers for the individual, other medical facilities, and community partners. This will assist with any ongoing needs for care, and coordination should the individual's health status change. In such cases, the Medical Assistant helps to facilitate a smooth transition between services.
Medical Assistants are not required to have an extensive background in medicine or possess clinical skills (though preferred). Education or background in CAM disciplines and especially phytotherapy and dietary supplementation, previous experience with vulnerable populations, or de-escalation techniques also preferred, but not required.
Medical Assistants applicants should demonstrate the ability to adapt to changing circumstances, work well in a multi-disciplinary team, understand and convey the principles of Trauma-Informed Care, and exhibit compassion to individuals during an incredibly stressful period in their lives. Effective MAs for Occupy Medical are those that are quick learners, critical thinkers, and have a passion for serving anyone in need.

This position is nonexempt, of indeterminate duration, $15.00/hr., with contingency for zero census on-call shift.
