PROGRAM SUMMARY:

The Substance Abuse DAY TX Counselor provides addiction treatment counseling to men and women in a highly intensive non-residential environment. Day tx is considered ASAM level II.5 with service delivered 5 days per week, 4-5 hours per day.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Oregon state certification (CADC) is required of all counselors, or demonstration of active progress towards certification within timelines as defined: Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR's)

2. If recovering from alcohol/drug addiction, must provide documentation of sobriety for a minimum of two years.

3. Must pass a required criminal records background check

4. Must possess a valid Oregon driver's license and is company insurance eligible.

5. Must adhere to the agency's non-discrimination policies

6. Ability to effectively interact with co-workers, clients, and others with diverse ethnic backgrounds, religious views, political affiliation, cultural backgrounds, life-styles, and sexual orientations and treat each individual with respect and dignity.

7. Typing 25 words per minute minimum

8. Demonstration of competence in the treatment of SUDS as defined: OAR

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

1. Interact with the service population providing individual and group therapy

2. Facilitate a number of experiential activities including Equine Therapy and Tai Chi.

3. Provide educational presentations on substance abuse and other related issues.

4. Service planning, file management, and record keeping per OAR's and program policy.

5. Serve as a liaison between WF and other service agencies.

6. Provide culturally appropriate services, implemented within the context of social, cultural, racial, gender-specific sensitivity and understanding

7. Provide transportation in company vehicles if needed

8. Participate in clinical staff meetings.

9. Assess ongoing needs of individuals and make appropriate referrals.

10. Provide immediate crisis intervention and assistance in developing safety plans.

11. Provide case management services including transitional services

12. Participate in weekly supervision sessions with clinical supervisor.

13. Provide comprehensive authorization reviews for insurance companies

14. Complete necessary requirements in order to maintain certification and competency level.

15. Ad hoc assignments as requested

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Knowledge and understanding of substance addiction as a progressive disease

2. Knowledge, understanding, and expertise in providing effective, evidence-based substance addiction treatment services

3. Knowledge, skill, and experience in evidence based interventions including Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and other trauma-informed treatment

4. Required knowledge in ASAM-PPC 2R, OAR's, 42 CFR Part 2/HIPAA.

5. Above average skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office software applications including Outlook, as well as navigating Electronic Medical Records software

6. Professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

7. Effective problem solving skills.

8. Ability to follow oral and written directions and to apply techniques for special needs

9. Knowledge of de-escalation methods

10. Flexibility in responding to changing needs and requirements

11. Ability to work in an environment where people may be verbally hostile and/or abusive

12. Ability to manage time and meet deadlines

13. Ability to maintain accurate records and necessary paperwork
