About the Program

ColumbiaCare Services Rental Assistance Program (RAP) is designed to help high-needs individuals obtain independent housing in the community. These individuals typically face many barriers to obtaining housing and its our focus to help them to overcome those obstacles.

About the Position

We have a Full-Time job opening for a Support Specialist at our Rental Assistance Program (RAP) in Jackson County. This position works directly with clients by assisting them to navigate very complex systems (rental applications and requirements, HUD/alternative subsidy applications, benefits systems, public transportation, etc.) Will also help them maintain residence and learn the skills to become as independent as possible in the community. Travel within Jackson County Area will be required in this position.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm (Day)

(Must be flexible to work an occasional weekend days)

Support Specialist will provide ongoing support to clients in terms of psychiatric stability and symptom management; motivate individuals with serious mental illness to transition into their apartments and once placed, maintain that apartment. They work on engaging the client in the spheres of being a good tenant/neighbor and living in the community; providing assistance with transportation arrangements; facilitate access to community resources and amenities; participate in skills training and other treatment activities; assist individual as necessary in completing housekeeping tasks and maintaining cleanliness of home; strive to close the gap created by cultural or language barriers; encourage independent living/self-sufficiency, education, navigating the medical community, community living, and/or as assigned; help keep individuals safe in the community; and encourage socialization and communication. Services provided will be in accordance with individual community integration and recovery plans. This position will understand and carry out ColumbiaCare policies and procedures, and will be expected to attend staff meetings and training sessions, as scheduled. In addition, while we are an organization that does not practice seclusion or restraint, we do still require our direct care staff to successfully complete ourÂVerbal andÂPhysicalÂIntervention (VPI) crisis de-escalation training, which includes performing various physical,Âevasion and safetyÂmaneuvers in class.

Qualifications

Peer Support Specialist applicants MUST have personal experience with mental illness and the ability to effectively manage own symptoms. They MUST also meet QMHA credentials -OR- be both Certified and Registered as a Peer Support Specialist through the Oregon Health Authority

State of Oregon QMHA credentials criteria:

a) Bachelors degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or Human Development;

b) OR minimum THREE (3) YEARS verifiable mental health experience working with Severe Persistent Mental Illness population in a supervised social service setting;

c) OR equivalent combination of behavioral science education in addition to satisfactory supplemental mental health experience and training

The new OARs currently in development by the OHA will include the requirement for all unlicensed QMHPs and QMHAs to obtain certification through the Mental Health & Addictions Certification Board of Oregon (MHACBO). At this time, they are offering a grandparenting window for those currently working in these roles.

QMHA Certification: Grandparenting with a Bachelors Degree:

Previously qualified QMHAs with a baccalaureate degree and 1,000 clinical experience hours (6 months of full-time work in a state approved program) can grandparent into QMHA Basic Certification (QMHA-C). Mental Health Interns qualified as QMHP operating under a variance with an agency collaborative education agreement must register as QMHAs. If you are certified as a peer or a CADC and you are designated as a QMHA, performing QMHA duties, you will need to be certified as a QMHA through MHACBO.

QMHA Certification: Grandparenting without a Bachelors Degree:

Previously qualified QMHAs without a baccalaureate degree in behavioral health sciences, and 4,000 clinical experience hours (2 full time years of work in a state approved program) can grandparent into QMHA Basic Certification.

Successful applicants MUST also have a valid Oregon drivers license, maintain a safe driving record, and the ability to pass a DHS criminal background check.

Additional requirements: include the ability to interact and relate to residents and staff from partnering agencies with respect and dignity; comprehend laws, administrative rules, regulations and company policies; be able to manage clients experiencing crisis situations; and be computer literate.

Pay & Benefits

Starting at $15.00 per hour/DOE and QMHA credentials.
