About the Program

Driftwood Lodge is a beautiful 8-bed mental health residential facility converted from an old fishing lodge with ocean views. Driftwood Lodge is located in Gold Beach, Oregon at the mouth of the famous Rogue River on the beautiful Southern Oregon coast.

About the Position

We have a Part-Time opening for the Support Specialist position at our Driftwood Lodge RTF program in Gold Beach, Oregon. ColumbiaCare Services is looking for the right individual to work peer to peer, (meaning you are affected by mental illness), and are willing to share your personal experiences with adult consumers affected by a severe and persistent mental illness, while effectively managing your own symptoms. If you have experience working as a Direct Support Professional (DSP), Residential Assistant (RA), Residential Counselor, Skills Trainer, or Caregiving for a client suffering with mental illness (e.g. memory care unit at an Assisted Living Facility), then this position might be a good fit for you.

Work Schedule: 8 hours a week, day is flexible as needed.

This position will be required to support in the development of life skills and therapeutic interventions; adhere to policies and procedures; perform clinical documentation, demonstrate professional boundaries and ethics; be willing to share personal mental illness experiences with peers; and facilitate groups focused on peer-to peer topics; May participate in review and/or interview team for prospective new clients; May assist consumers with direct community resources, shopping-on-a-budget, etc. In addition, while we are an organization that does not practice seclusion or restraint, we do still require our direct care staff to successfully complete our Verbal and Physical Intervention (VPI) crisis de-escalation training, which includes performing various physical, evasion and safety maneuvers in class.


Support Specialist applicants MUST have personal experience with mental illness and the ability to effectively manage own symptoms. PREFER to also meet QMHA credentials -OR- be both Certified and Registered as a Peer Support Specialist through the Oregon Health Authority.

State of Oregon QMHA credentials criteria:

a) Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or Human Development;

b) OR minimum THREE (3) YEARS verifiable mental health experience working with SPMI population in a supervised social service setting;

c) OR equivalent combination of behavioral science education in addition to satisfactory supplemental mental health experience and training

The new OARs currently in development by the OHA will include the requirement for all unlicensed QMHPs and QMHAs to obtain certification through the Mental Health & Addictions Certification Board of Oregon (MHACBO). At this time, they are offering a grandparenting window for those currently working in these roles.

QMHA Certification: Grandparenting with a Bachelor’s Degree:

Previously qualified QMHAs with a baccalaureate degree and 1,000 clinical experience hours (6 months of full-time work in a state approved program) can grandparent into QMHA Basic Certification (QMHA-C). Mental Health Interns qualified as QMHP operating under a variance with an agency collaborative education agreement must register as QMHAs. If you are certified as a peer or a CADC and you are designated as a QMHA, performing QMHA duties, you will need to be certified as a QMHA through MHACBO.

QMHA Certification: Grandparenting without a Bachelor’s Degree:

Previously qualified QMHAs without a baccalaureate degree in behavioral health sciences, and 4,000 clinical experience hours (2 full time years of work in a state approved program) can grandparent into QMHA Basic Certification.

Pay & Benefits

$15.00-$19.50 per hour/DOE and QMHA credentials. ColumbiaCare offers a comprehensive benefits package for part-time employees. Medical/Dental/Vision coverage for employees working 30 hours a week. All Part-Time/On-Call hourly employees receive time and a half when working a holiday and are eligible to receive up to 5 days of sick time and up to 12 days of vacation per year (accruals earned are based on hours worked).
