We're hiring a new manager at the Willamette Sailing Club. This is a dynamic full time position where every day will be different, and you'll get to experience the best of the seasons right from the water.

## Position Summary

The Manager serves as the operational and administrative leader of Willamette Sailing Club, overseeing the club’s day-to-day activities, events, and maintenance. As the face of WSC, the Manager ensures an exceptional member experience, operational excellence, and the long-term sustainability of the club. This is a dynamic role requiring hands-on skills, basic finance and billing experience, basic facility operations, small event management, and a commitment to fostering a welcoming community. The Manager works very closely with the full-time Program Director, Head Coach, and part-time Dock Master along with seasonal coaching staff.

Established in 1961, Willamette Sailing Club (WSC), a 501(c)7 non-profit, is Portland’s premier institution for small-boat sailing. Located just five minutes south of downtown on the Willamette River, WSC provides a vibrant and welcoming community for sailors of all ages and skill levels. The facilities include a beautiful modern floating clubhouse, boathouses, docks, launch ramp, boat storage lot, and associated facilities. With a mission to promote small-boat sailing, we offer robust programming including learn-to-sail classes, regattas, and social events that foster a lifelong love of sailing.

## Qualifications

Strong customer service and communication skills, with an interest in building community relationships.

Proven experience in an operations role.

Financial management experience, including familiarity with QuickBooks and billing.

Hands-on project management and maintenance experience preferred.

Proficiency in Google Workspace and general technology tools.

Small to medium event planning and volunteer coordination experience is a plus.

Passion for sailing or outdoor recreation is a plus.

## Compensation and Benefits

Base salary $52,500 - $62,500 depending on experience, plus possible performance bonus

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Operations (70%)

Membership Management:

Act as the primary point of contact for membership inquiries, onboarding, and ongoing support

Maintain accurate moorage records, facilitate boat movements, and oversee moorage billing processes

Publish the club’s weekly (Willamette Wind) and quarterly (TellTales) newsletters

Conduct tours for prospective members and promote an inclusive, welcoming environment

Financial Management:

Use QuickBooks to manage billing, accounts receivable, payroll, invoicing, and financial reporting

Reconcile payments with the bookkeeper and monitor club expenses

Assist the Board with annual budgeting and expense oversight

Event Planning and Hosting:

Plan, coordinate, and execute club events, regattas, and facility rentals

Oversee event logistics, including catering, bar licensing, and volunteer coordination

Provide on-site support for event setup, operations, and cleanup

Administrative and Staff Management:

Leverage Google Workspace for organizational tasks (document management, communications, etc.)

Manage payroll and coordinate scheduling for hospitality and cleaning staff

Oversee club communications, represent WSC in meetings, and prepare monthly management reports

Lead projects related to operations, events, and facility maintenance

Attend and contribute to monthly Board and weekly management meetings

Act as a community liaison to strengthen external relationships

Maintenance and Repair (30%)

Conduct regular inspections of facilities, docks, and boats to ensure safety, cleanliness, and functionality; perform some routine maintenance

Manage inventory of cleaning supplies, hospitality items, and office needs

Schedule and track preventative maintenance for systems (HVAC, fire suppression, etc.)

Collaborate with the Dock Master and Program Director on maintenance tasks and boat upkeep
