Youth Advocate -

Full Time (40 Hours a Week) Non-exempt

Grant funded position

Reports to: Youth & Family Program Manager

POSITION SUMMARY:

Our program fosters academic achievement by providing school-based, age appropriate and culturally specific academic support, case management, family engagement, mentoring and skill-building groups to Latinx Students. This position will be based at East County High Schools.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides strengths-based mentoring support to approximately 60 students throughout the school year, and document outcomes.

Carries an ongoing caseload of up to 35 youth annually who will be receiving case management services and tracks contact and progress.

Comprehensively assess strengths and needs of individuals and families receiving case management services.

Motivates and supports youth to set and obtain academic, behavioral and/or attendance goals, while monitoring achievement.

Coordinates with agencies, providers, and resources to support youth well-being.

Interacts with school administrators, students and their families on regular basis and do community outreach.

Supports recruitment and curriculum for youth in summer program.

Plans and facilitates three parents’ workshops throughout the school year to engage families in the educational experiences of their children.

Co-organizes two college visits and one visit to a local business each academic year for students participating in Puentes program.

Participates in community partner and school meetings and EPHC meetings and activities as indicated by Program Manager.

Provides quarterly reports to program manager.

Adherence to El Programa Hispano Católico policies and procedures.

Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in social work, education or related field required.

Must be bilingual (Spanish/English) and bi-culturally competent.

Ability to communicate concisely and effectively, both verbally and in writing in Spanish and English.

Experience working with middle school/ high school populations and with Latinx families.

Demonstrated knowledge of community resources.

Must have strong proficiency in all programs of Microsoft Office and experience with data entry and database management.

Demonstrate judgment and discretion in dealing with confidential matters.

Must be able to organize and prioritize work, be proactive, take initiative, follow through, and manage multiple priorities to ensure goals are met in a timely manner.

Strong analytical and strategic problem-solving skills.

Ability to work well in team setting, as well as independently; be flexible and adapt well to different dynamics in a fast-paced work environment.

Ability to work a flexible schedule, which could include some evenings and weekends.

Must have a valid driver’s license, access to vehicle and ability to obtain automobile insurance at levels required by agency (100/300/100).

Satisfactory results from criminal background check required.

COMPENSATION: $17.00 to $18.00 an hour, depending on experience.
