The Facilities Technician I works under the direction of the Facilities Supervisor as part of a team performing a variety of building maintenance, remodeling and landscaping of Volunteers of America Oregon’s facilities.

Compensation: $16.87 - $19.69/hour (Depends on Experience and/or Certifications). Temporarily, due to COVID-19, an additional $2.00 per hour differential will be applied to employee’s base pay while performing work involving in-person interaction with clients. This is a full-time position with excellent benefits! Generous paid time off plan includes 15 days in the first year, 23 days in the second year, and 26 days in the third year.

Education, Training and Experience:

Knowledge of commercial and/or residential building maintenance, carpentry, landscaping and/or appliance repair is required.

Experience using basic hand and power tools typically used in carpentry, light construction, maintenance and in landscaping including hammers, drills, screwdrivers, tape measures, hand sanders, wrenches, lawn mowers, clippers and similar tools.

Entry level knowledge of electrical maintenance such as how to change a light switch or electrical outlet.

Knowledge of plumbing, including installation of P-trap pipes, faucet repair, and toilet flapper installation.

Experience working within a nonprofit or social services environment is preferred but not required.

Skills using basic hand tools needed for carpentry, plumbing, landscaping

Additional Eligibility Requirements:

Reliable vehicle, active driver’s license, current insurance and the ability to pass our insurer’s driving standards and maintain a good driving record.

Ability to pass a criminal background check.

Must have the ability to remain alert and focused while driving.

COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement: To protect the health and safety of VOA Oregon clients and employees, VOA Oregon requires employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have an approved medical or religious exception by October 18, 2021 as a qualification of employment. Candidates who receive an offer of employment must provide proof of vaccination upon hire or submit an exception request prior to their start date.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist in identifying and communicating maintenance needs and/or problems and performing general maintenance duties at individual program sites.

Assist in communicating with sub-contractors, work crews or vendors.

Assist in developing and implementing a preventative maintenance program for the individual sites.

Assist team performing landscape maintenance such as lawn mowing, pruning, leaves or snow/ice removal.

Assist in planning, development, and construction of special projects.

Maintain appropriate documentation of projects, work records, and costs for supplies for individual program sites.

Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.

Maintains professional boundaries at all times with coworkers and program participants.

Work Environment: Work is regularly performed in a combination of office, residential centers, outdoors, and shop conditions. Travels on daily basis locally to VOA facilities. Regular exposure to dust, odors, oil, fumes, and noise.

Schedule: This is a full-time position; 40 hours per week. Schedule is typically Monday thru Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but can be flexible depending on employee’s availability and program needs, allowing for 4 tens, and/or weekend hours. Some weekends or evening hours may be necessary in emergency situations. Rotating on call schedule will be a part of schedule.
