River Ranch is the largest olive oil producing farm in Oregon with approximately 8,000 trees, located the city of Glide, bordered by the North Umpqua River and the Umpqua National Forest, just over 20 miles outside of the Roseburg. We also maintain a stand of Douglas Fir trees. We are seeking an experienced Agriculture Manager to manage the orchard and integrate the recently acquired adjoining property. Our ideal candidate is enthusiastic about being a trail blazer and bringing a new crop to the state of Oregon, and equally comfortable with the hands-on and the administrative aspects of an olive orchard.
Agricultural Manager Job Description:
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
⢠Daily and seasonal production tasks for our olive trees include planting, pruning, training, mowing,
cultivating, harvest, milling the olives, etc.
⢠Evaluate weather and soil conditions, develop plans and procedures, and to manage issues such as changes
in fertilizers, herbicides, or spraying and irrigation techniques
⢠Regular scouting for pests, diseases and monitoring of plant health to develop pest and nutrient
management plans
⢠Drone operation to manage and document and analyze crop yields and production
⢠Schedule planting and harvest based upon weather and scheduled Mill dates
⢠Coordinate equipment and crop hauling logistics, including communications with trucking companies, truck
drivers, and the milling facility
⢠Manage picking crew (seasonal hires)
⢠Keep accurate records of crops
⢠Manage maintenance and repairs for all farming equipment and tools.
⢠Maintenance of company vehicle and tools
⢠Monitor and make recommendations for field operations, such as irrigation needs and harvesting
⢠Operation of an on-site greenhouse for the production of olive and Douglas Fir seedlings
Required Experience:
⢠At least 3 years production experience (preferable) on a similar olive or grape orchard.
⢠With one year of experience in a leadership role.
⢠Proficiency with farm equipment including tractors and tractor-drawn implements
⢠Operating and servicing all major farm equipment including drones
⢠Maintenance and general farm repair
⢠Familiar with fertilizers
⢠Knowledge of irrigation system operation
⢠General farm/ranch skills: fence repair, culvert and road maintenance
Required Skills and Qualifications
⢠Mechanically inclined
⢠Previous experience in agriculture/production
⢠Capable of handling a physically demanding job - should be able to lift at least 40 lbs.
⢠Possess a valid driverâs license and clean driving history
