The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s most effective animal advocacy organization, is seeking a Senior Maintenance Technician for Duchess Sanctuary in Oakland, Oregon. You will maintain, manage and upgrade all aspects of maintenance at Duchess Sanctuary. You will also provide overall maintenance to vehicles, tractors, other equipment and all internal roads, as well as completing repairs and upgrades to equipment, buildings and site infrastructure including fences.

You will be responsible for:

Scheduling and performing routine upkeep of all equipment and vehicles to ensure that all equipment is in good working order. Managing assigned tasks and maintaining logs to document all in-progress and completed maintenance;

Operating equipment including, but not limited to tractors and implements, ATV’s, welders, chainsaws and power tools to feed horses, maintaining the sanctuary grounds and transporting materials or supplies;

Assisting with landscaping and pasture maintenance including brush clearing, spraying, seeding, fertilizing, and road maintenance;

Overseeing and maintaining the following areas; ensuring that they are completed properly, on time and at or under budget; enclosure and fencing construction, plumbing and electrical systems and building maintenance;

Recommending and assisting in the design and construction of new facilities, animal environments and enclosures. With the Director of Operations, overseeing the work of contractors and consultants;

Testing and repairing or replacing all emergency equipment and supplies on a routine schedule. In the event of a major disaster, responding to the situation as outlined in the current Emergency Preparedness Protocol;

Assists with animal care as needed.

Qualifications and Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent required;

A minimum of one (1) year of contracting, maintenance, welding and construction experience required;

Supervisory experience preferred;

A valid driver’s license is required and a clean driving record is strongly preferred, with the ability to demonstrate and maintain a safe driving record while employed;

Must be able to work in an unsupervised environment;

Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule that includes weekends and holidays;

Must be able to operate heavy equipment (i.e. tractors, backhoe and implements);

Must be able to competently drive a truck and horse trailer;

Must be able to negotiate trails and moderately dense undergrowth on foot;

Must be able to adhere to all policies and procedures that enforce a safe work environment;

Proficiency of Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook);

Strong written and verbal communication skills;

Attention to detail and commitment to excellence demonstrated by the delivery of quality and timely outcomes;

Strong interpersonal skills are necessary;

Strong interest in animal protection issues preferred.
