Oregon Cherry Growers, one of the top fruit packaging companies in the U.S., is seeking a Safety & Training Manager in Salem, Oregon.

This exempt-level position will provide leadership in the on-going development and implementation of the corporate safety and health programs, and sources and/or develops and delivers other corporate training programs across a broad range of topics. This position reports directly to the Plant Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Develop safety and health policies and programs that fully comply with regulatory requirements.

Researches new regulatory developments in Health and Safety, and recommend changes in the companys programs.

Design and coordinate safety, health, and regulatory training programs for the three Oregon facilities; develop safety curriculum for all positions.

Work with employees and managers to design and improve work areas for employees to prevent occupational risks to injury or illness, and maintain compliance with regulatory requirements.

Manages LTO training & certifications for assigned facility.

Leads safety committee meetings; works with the committee members to enhance the overall programs and ensure that corrective actions are completed in a timely manner.

Reviews plant documentation to insure all required onsite records and reports are complete, accurate and submitted per established procedures.

Responsible for safety reporting for assigned facility.

Manages the Accident/Incident Investigation process; assists managers in investigation & documentation.

Prepares year end safety postings and required filings.

Ensure the company is in compliance with all federal and state OSHA regulations.

Regularly conducts internal safety audits for assigned facility.

Controls hazardous working conditions and unsafe employee practices through site visits, safety plans, and education.

Manages annual Hearing Testing & First Aid/CPR/BBP/AED training programs.

Reinforces safety awareness in a manner that promotes cooperation and improved morale.

Creates a working atmosphere that promotes openness and a high level of enthusiasm and morale in the facility.

Conducts work area inspections and assists in personal injury investigations.

Coordinates with insurance carriers safety and loss prevention professionals.

Provides oversight of the SDS System to ensure we have the current required SDSs on site and that they are accessible; ensures that SDS and MSDS sheets have been properly archived in compliance with regulations.

Accompanies all regulatory, safety & health and insurance visitors on walk through inspections.

Update, maintain, and manage all employee training records for assigned facility.

Respond to and provide requested information from local, state and federal agencies, in addition to our workers compensation carrier.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related field with 3 or more years experience in safety manager role in a manufacturing environment. (experience in food processing plants a plus.)

Thorough knowledge of state OSHA safety regulations and requirements

Experience in developing and delivering comprehensive safety training programs.

Ability to work with employees and managers to address safety issues within the work environment.

Possess excellent communication skills; verbal, written and interpersonal. (Bi-lingual in Spanish a plus)

Ability to work both independently and as a team member.

Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and prioritize work.

Demonstrates strong and positive leadership skills and an ability to work effectively with employees at every level of the organization.

Ability to travel between facilities within Oregon.

Demonstrates proficient computer skills in MS office suite; Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.

Demonstrates excellent problem-solving skills.

Physical Requirements

Frequent physical activity includes sitting, walking, using a keyboard, touching, hearing, and speaking. Moderate physical activity includes standing, stooping, lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds.
