We are a midsized criminal defense law firm in Salem looking for a F/T Legal Assistant. Our ideal candidate will be able to prioritize effectively and work well in both a team environment and individually. This is a fast-paced office where adapting quickly while still maintaining focus is required. Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma (or equivalent) and bi-lingual in English and Spanish. Must be able to maintain client confidentiality at all times. Must be able to pass background check for jail clearance. Experience working in the legal field is preferred, but we are willing to train the right candidate. Experience with standard office applications such as Word and Excel is preferred. Database experience is a plus. Primary duties include: meeting with clients in custody, assisting out of custody clients with paperwork on arraignment, meeting with client's family members as directed, contacting clients to obtain releases of information, medical records, certificates, property, etc. that the attorney may need. The Legal Assistant, like all other employees, may be asked to cover for other employees if the office is short staffed. Those duties would include: answering phones, scheduling appointments, setting up case files, processing discovery and other general office functions as requested. Working conditions: This is a typical office environment, which does include long periods of sitting and requires frequent walking and driving trips out of the office to conduct business. The candidate will need a valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Our hours are Monday- Friday 8 AM – 5 PM. We offer 100% employer paid medical and dental benefits the month following hire, and a 401(k) plan after one year of service. Pay DOE $16-$17 per hour.
