The Sports Information Coordinator will assist the Sports Information Director in promoting the athletic department and its student-athletes through media relations, press releases, Web site, social media, and other print and electronic media. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: writing and editing press releases, game stories, and feature articles; producing athletic publications, including game programs, schedule posters, and schedule cards; compiling and distributing statistics using Stat Crew; supporting home game press events; assisting with maintenance of the official athletic Web site; maintaining social media sites; and assisting in the coordination of media relations and photography. This position has requirements for evening and weekend work as coverage requires. Some overnight and non-overnight travel is required for coverage purposes.
Examples of Duties:

  • Coordinate daily updates of the athletic website.
  • Post stories, photos, game stats, game stories, records and more for each of the 23 varsity sports with an eye towards maintaining equitable distribution via Title IX standards.
  • Support all official university social media accounts related to BU Athletics including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Tik Tok etc. posting content regularly.
  • Produce graphics and/or short videos used on social media. Produce videos that highlight personalities of BU student-athletes or highlight accomplishments of S-A’s.
  • Facilitate operation of the message centers at the Nelson Field House for home athletic events and coordinate all pre-game and in-game entertainment (music/contests/promotions) to further enhance the fan experience.
  • Provide event support for the Athletics Hall of Fame, and Hall of Fame committee work. Collect data on possible candidates, participate in selection meetings if needed, support event registration, dinner, and the night’s program.
  • Assist in supporting student staff in partnership with Director and Graduate Assistant to ensure that work meets the university’s standards for quality and brand adherence.
  • Support statistical coverage of all university home athletic events, including any PSAC or NCAA Championship events.
  • Support the writing of sports stories for the BU Magazine that is published three times per year.
  • Work with coaches and the athletic director’s office, and game day staff to ensure positive relationships.
  • Support corporate sponsorship fulfillment in conjunction with Director and partner in the BU Foundation.
  • Support special recognition events for teams and individuals.
  • Support the school mascot (Roongo) program, coordinating appearances for both the campus and local community.
  • Assist coordination of End of the Year Student Athletic Awards Ceremony.
  • Work to support strategies for increasing attendance at Bloomsburg sporting events.
  • Support in-game promotions featuring involvement of local and regional businesses.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSBILITY
Helps to supervise student workers and undergraduate interns.
Qualifying Experience / Education: Minimum Experience and Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree in sport management, sport marketing, journalism, communications, marketing, or related field
  • Minimum one or more years of sports information experience
  • Strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills

Must be able to work evening and weekend hours.

Applicant must possess these skills, knowledge, and abilities or to be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

  • Strong verbal, written (knowledge of AP Style), computer (Stat Crew, SideArm) and desktop publishing skills (Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva) and video editing software.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations pertaining to athletic communications.
  • Photography and videography skills preferred.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations.

3. Demonstrated understanding of sports and sports statistics
4. Level of experience with social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) and analytics.
5. Experience working with diverse populations.
6. Experience in promotions and the fulfillment of corporate sponsorship requirements.

Supervisor: Mary Raskob, Director of Sports Information
Appointment: Temporary, Full-time (37.5 hours per week). Appointment will be date of hire until June 30, 2022.
