Job Description

This role will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state/provincial, and local payroll tax regulations for a multi-state, multi-employer corporation (US and Canada). The Payroll Tax Administrator will serve as a backup to the Payroll Support team and will also work in close collaboration with the HRIT team and third-party tax vendor.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Ensures compliance with all applicable local, state/provincial, and federal tax regulations.
  • Maintains all tax set ups in Oracle payroll and Ceridian.
  • Reviews and processes payroll tax adjustments.
  • Sets up new tax jurisdictions due to adding new locations or remote employees.
  • Assists with the investigation of inquiries from employees or taxing agencies.
  • Ensures completeness and accuracy of all payroll tax returns and filings and acts as primary liaison between Ceridian and Harsco.
  • Performs monthly and quarterly tax reconciliations and year-end W-2, T4, RL1 processes and reconciliations.
  • Supports complex payroll projects and technical upgrades as required.
  • Researches and remains current with payroll tax compliance regulations.
  • Responds to payroll tax inquiries and resolves discrepancies as required. Provides high level customer service and problem resolution for escalated issues.
  • Assists in both internal and external audits.
  • Maintain positive relationships with our employees by ensuring processes are in place to manage Harsco’s payroll tax obligations regarding withholding tax (and related matters) in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Help implement and support strategic policies that ensure the accuracy of Payroll Tax withholding.
  • Serves as a backup to Payroll Support team.
  • Review of payroll processor checklists prior to release of payrolls.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) credential preferred.
  • 7+ years of payroll tax experience required
  • Experience with federal, state, and local payroll taxes for a multi-employer in multiple states required.
  • Experience with Canadian federal and provincial payroll taxes preferred.
  • Experience with filing amendments outside of third-party services.
  • Knowledge of payroll processes and procedures including pay calculations and geographical location taxation rules including Act 32.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office with above average proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy with quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills needed. Ability to multi-task, prioritize assignments, and meet dynamic deadlines with short notice.
  • Proactive, motivated, and results orientated individual capable of partnering with finance, human resources, and others.
  • Strong communication skills, including written, verbal, and presentation. Ability to communicate effectively with all levels within the organization, including Executives.
  • Experience with Oracle payroll and Kbace reporting
