Water Street Mission Job Description
Director of Pastoral Care
Purpose: To lead the call in presenting the gospel message for Water Street Mission
community and promote spiritual well-being through the affirmation of life in relationship with
Jesus Christ.
FLSA: Full-time, Exempt
The Director of Pastoral Care must be:
1. Able to fully support the Water Street Mission Statement of Faith
2. A current and active member and/or regular attendee of a local church.
3. Able to fully support the Water Street Mission core values and ministry philosophies.
Supervisor: VP of Programs
Essential Functions:
o Personally model the core values of WSM in a Christ-like fashion
o Encourage an evangelistic culture to encourage a commitment to sharing the gospel,
a commitment to Christ, and to nurture Christian growth and discipleship
o Establish a process to encourage and monitor the spiritual and emotional health of
staff and guests in an ecumenical environment
o Responsible to secure, educate and monitor chapel partners, and to screen all
spiritual partnering volunteers for fit with culture and theology of WSM.
o Supervise Spiritual Director and volunteers
o Conduct classes and small groups on campus
o Ensure guests (and at times employees) receive appropriate spiritual and pastoral
care in times of personal or organizational crises.
o Provide pastoral care to guests on a routine basis as requested, and to bridge guests
to spiritual mentors and local churches
o Conduct spiritual assessments and participate in treatment planning
o Coordinate and conduct ‘Celebration of Life’ services in memory of deceased residents,
attend funerals, and participate when requested by family or when there is no family
o Oversee the scheduling of church partners volunteering in chapel, ensuring that
services connect with WSM core values and theology
o Provide value to the mission directors group in looking at strategic initiatives within
residential ministries
o Support spiritual activities of all ministries of WSM, including Outreach, Teen Haven,
and Wonder Club
o Provide leadership to community initiatives that impact WSM and the Kingdom of
God including local ministeriums and ecumenical gatherings
o Represent WSM through public speaking (business or church contexts) and
involvement in professional associations as needed

o Other duties as assigned
Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in bible, pastoral studies or relevant field required.
Master of Divinity preferred. Five or more years of experience in pastoral/spiritual care
required. Experience working with a marginalized, diverse population required. Ordained or
licensed with a denomination preferred. Strong evidence of spiritual maturity, wise leadership,
and fruitful discipleship is important. Pastoral ministry experience with marginalized people
groups is an asset.
