Job Description

Foster Grandparents are low-income senior volunteers who dedicate between 15 to 40 hours per week in Head Start and early elementary classrooms across the city, tutoring students one-on-one or in small groups. The City of Philadelphia’s Foster grandparent program has approximately 100 active senior volunteers serving 350 children in over 50 sites across Philadelphia.

The Foster Grandparents (FGP) Site Coordinator is responsible for recruiting new service sites and placing Foster Grandparents at schools and early education institutions citywide. The Site Coordinator will work hand in hand with the Volunteer Coordinator to place and supervise volunteers and maintain service hours for the program.

This position reports directly to the Foster Grandparents Program Manager.

Essential Functions

  • Recruit new service sites at schools, pre-k, and afterschool programs across the City.
  • Provide onboarding to site liaisons and ensures that service sites are in compliance with grant and program requirements.
  • Train new and returning sites on program procedures and protocols.
  • Conduct site visits to ensure program quality.
  • Work with the Volunteer Coordinator in planning and executing recognition events.
  • Work with Manager and Volunteer coordinator to improve processes for program functions.
  • Develop and maintain close coordination and relationships with volunteer stations, including development of volunteer assignment plans.
  • Compile & produce reports.
  • Enhance the total efforts of FGP through active involvement with schools, community organizations, other non-profits and service programs.
  • Plan and develop social media and communications content in cooperation with the Office of Civic Engagement and Volunteer Service.
  • Provide ongoing support to Site Supervisors and FGP liaisons.
  • Assess appropriateness and/or performance of volunteer stations

  • Clear understanding of best practices in community engagement and volunteer recruitment/retention.
  • Data driven approach to problem solving.
  • Action oriented; an individual not afraid to roll up his/her sleeves and get into the details of the operation.
  • Excellent time management skills with capacity to work simultaneously on multiple tasks and projects and deliver on deadline.
  • Excellent people-centered customer service skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • 3-5 years of experience in program coordinator or volunteer management.
  • Background in community organizing or recruitment preferred.
  • Experience working with senior population and/or youth development preferred.
