Are you living your life's work?Position Description :The clinical surgery services covered will include Thoracic, Transplant, Emergency surgery, Trauma, Bariatric's, and GI surgery. The candidate will rotate in two month blocks.This is a unique opportunity for a Physician Assistant to join the inpatient Surgery team caring for GI Surgery/Bariatrics, Emergency Surgery, and Thoracic Surgery patients. The Department of Surgery inpatient PA team rotates on surgical services in two month blocks.The scope of responsibilities include, but are not limited to daily rounds with the surgical team, patient assessments, pre and post-operative patient care, diagnostic interpretations, admissions, complex discharge coordination, transitions in care, bedside procedures and first assisting in the operating room. The PA-C will provide quality care across the continuum working collaboratively with the physicians, residents/fellows and other APPs to achieve a team centered approach to comprehensive patient care for our patients. This position requires a high level of independence but is well supported with collaborative practice and a multi-disciplinary practice model.The high acuity clinical practice setting is dynamic, fast- paced, and high pressure. Excellent critical thinking skills, organizational skills, communication skills, and strong medical, pharmacology, nursing, medical knowledge are essential. In this role The APP will also participate in educational activities, research as appropriate, ensures regulatory compliance, documents care according to standards, and prescribes in accordance with the collaborative agreement and state regulations. In addition to clinical responsibilities, the role also involves participation in the Department’s Quality Improvement initiatives and Unit-Based Clinical Leadership (UBCL). Opportunities for professional growth and development are available through research, lecturing, publications, and involvement with departmental and hospital projects and committees.All clinical work hours and associated requirements will be defined and managed by the Lead Advanced Practice Provider, taking into consideration the needs of the services, and within the human resource guidelines. The Department of Advance Practice will assist with on-boarding, credentialing and ensuring practice is congruent with state regulations related to PA practice. The identified supervising physician will evaluate the PA’s Clinical Skills and Competence as part of their annual performance review.All Physician Assistants (PAs) function under the guidelines as designed by the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center medical staff guidelines and is credentialed through that body. The PA hired by the Department of Surgery will be held accountable through a formal job description, through the delineation of privileges, and through their agreement with their supervising physician who has initiated a Supervising Practice Agreement.The employees will work 4 (10) hour shift per week and rotational weekends and holidays. Minimum Requirements :Licensed to practice as a Physician Assistant in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Prior to employment.The PA must be reviewed by the Credentials Committee and approved by the Medical Board prior to commencing employment.The candidates will work 4 (10) hour shifts per week with rotational weekends and holidays.Further delineation of clinical hours will be defined by the Clinical Service to meet the patient care needs.Candidates must obtain minimum requirements for continuing education as outlined by the credentialing agency and State Board of Medicine.Additional Information :We believe that the best care for our patients starts with the best care for our employees.
