Job Description

Position Overview:

KIPP Philadelphia Public Schools (KPPS) is seeking a Sr. Director of HR to create a vision for the HR department (including the core functions of employee relations, benefits and compensation management, and compliance management), and develop or enhance the tools and processes needed to bring that vision to life. The Sr. Director of HR will play a critical role in continuing to make KPPS a premier destination and long-term home for talented, committed, culturally competent individuals. They will leverage deep expertise in labor law and a people-first mindset to assess and enhance our employee experience, train and support leaders in effectively addressing employee challenges, and build leadership capacity in other members of the HR team.

Working closely with the Managing Director of Talent, the Sr. Director of HR will report directly to the COO, and will manage an HR Manager, with the potential for additional future departmental growth.

Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

HR Strategy & Customer Service Delivery

  • Work closely with the MD of Talent to evaluate and improve KPPS’ wellness strategy through programs and initiatives intended to benefit the health and well-being of our employees
  • Enhance communication strategy to increase regional understanding of payroll and benefits-related topics, including benefit offerings, the ADP platform, and KPPS’ HR policies
  • Collaborate with the MD of Talent to support the complete employee lifecycle at KPPS

Employee Benefits & Compensation Management

  • Manage the HR Manager in delivering timely, accurate semi-monthly payroll across KPPS’ 7 payroll entities
  • In partnership with HR Manager, conduct annual benefits review to ensure competitive, cost effective benefits for all employees
  • Collaborate with Talent and Finance teams to make salary recommendations for new hires and promotions
  • Lead KPPS in our ongoing compensation strategy, monitoring wage and salary trends to ensure KPPS remains competitive in the market

HR Management Compliance

  • Overhaul our approach to teacher certification compliance, ensuring collective clarity across stakeholders regarding certification needs and enhancing teacher-facing resources and supports that increase certification rates
  • Ensure accuracy of all HR compliance data and records for the region.
  • Ensure timely filing of payroll tax information to state and federal authorities

Personnel Matters

  • Serve as lead go-to for all personnel matters at KPPS
  • Conduct employee due process investigations as necessary
  • Enhance exit interview process and feedback loop

In addition, the candidate must have the following qualifications:

  • Experienced HR professional with ideally 7+ years of experience.
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now HRIS Platform
  • Mastery of Microsoft Office (particularly Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) required; fluency with relationship databases (required).
  • Bachelor’s Degree (required), SHRM-CP (or greater) credentials preferred

Compensation

Salaries at KPPS are competitive, equitable, and commensurate with experience. The salary range for this position starts at $95,000. All KPPS staff members enjoy a comprehensive benefits package, a 403B matching program, and access to free financial advising services.
