JOB PURPOSE
The Part-time Prep/Line Cook assists the Food Program Manager & Chefs in the overall execution and success of the kitchen operations while maintaining a safe and sanitary work environment for the staff. The Prep/Line Cook will assist in the preparation of meals in accordance with company guidelines to ensure that Penn Asian Senior Services Vision, Goals and Objectives are met in serving the needs of the centers diverse senior population.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Prepare high-quality food items according to standardized recipes and instructions; Ensure that food is prepped, held, and served at the correct temperatures, and meets consistent quality standards by tasting all prepared food items
Stores food in designated areas following all company, state and federal food safety and sanitation procedures. Complies with federal, state and local health and sanitation regulations and department sanitation procedures as evidenced through local health department
Ensures proper food handling, presentation, portion control and maintenance of appropriate serving temperatures
Maintains sanitation of equipment, supplies and utensils. Cleans workstation thoroughly before leaving area
Assists in monitoring inventory and deliveries of product and supplies. Tracks product production, consumption and waste. Informs Food Program Manager when supplies or product are low
Participates and attends departmental meetings
Perform other related duties and responsibilities
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED is preferred
Must have at least 2 years of experience working in fast-paced commercial kitchen/restaurant environment
Proven cooking experience and strong understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment and procedures
Ability to multi-task & communicate effectively within kitchen team
Must be dependable and able to work weekends
This position requires a person to stand and exert high-paced mobility and be able to lift 25-50 pounds
Ability to work in a culturally diverse and multi-lingual community.
Demonstrated ability to handle stressful situations in a professional, warm and friendly manner.
