Pittsburgh, PAoffice, the successful candidate will be a crucial part of the Generator Excitation Solutions group with responsibilities for design/implementation functions, and project execution for digital generator controls. This role will be supporting Emerson's Power and Water Solutions business.

The group focuses on upgrading existing power plant control systems with industry leading automation controls and instrumentation to promote sustainability and longevity of our North American power grid. In this role, you will be using our virtualization, simulation and remote support technologies along with Emerson propriety software to provide customized and cost effective solutions to our customers. We will offer you hands-on work experience and on the job training supported by senior engineers and mentorship.

As a GES Application Engineer, you will:

  • Be part of a collaborative and innovative team passionate about solving complex problems

  • Learn our project process and products to meet our customer demands

  • Be given opportunities to build and develop your technical capabilities

  • Work on a combination of design and hands-on testing of the equipment you develop

  • Travel to customer sites to perform walk downs, maintenance, commissioning or other duties as needed

  • Design the electrical schematics, mechanical layouts, digital logic and graphics for excitation systems

  • Design installation packages and documentation to support field service activities

  • Work on standardization of excitation design and implementation

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

  • Bachelors Degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Technical or similar

  • Minimum 5+years in excitation design or related experience

  • Willing and able to travel up to 20%, domestically

  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future - sponsorship will not be provided for this role

Preferred education, experience & skills:

  • Experience designing electrical systems is a plus

  • Experience with commissioning of excitation systems is a plus
