We are looking to expand our team and hire an experienced immigration attorney to coordinate the recruitment, training and mentoring of pro bono attorneys. JFCS Immigration Legal Services handles the most immigration cases in the region, averaging 125 cases per month. In this role, JFCS aims to harness the power of local pro bono attorneys and reach more clients than ever possible through direct representation.

In addition to directly coordinating pro bono attorneys, this position will also involve coordination of continuing legal education events, legal clinic days and community relations. Some direct client representation will be required as needed.

Qualifications:

● J.D. required and must be admitted to the Bar.

● Three years experience related to legal immigration law.

● Significant experience with complicated immigration cases before U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services and Immigration Court.

● Maintenance of active lawyer status by attending Continuing Legal Education seminars.

● Experience in family court of Allegheny County helpful.

● Detail-oriented and culturally sensitive.

● Excellent communication and organizational skills are necessary.

● Experience working with volunteers is appreciated.

● Spanish speaker preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Project coordination: Responsible for coordinating the pro bono attorney program,

a. Recruit, train, assign cases and provide ongoing support for pro bono attorneys.

b. Record volunteer information and monitor their required clearances and coordinate Continuing Legal Education Courses for pro bono attorneys and volunteers as needed.

c. Learn the family court process for Allegheny County to support our volunteer attorneys when representing clients for Dependency Petitions or Confirmation of Custody filings.

d. Track outcomes of pro bono cases and providing timely reports for funders.

2. Case management: Providing legal consultations, instruction and assistance with filling out selected immigration applications and provide ongoing legal representation when appropriate.

3. Community outreach: Coordinate community presentations and events for clients and partner agencies on topics related to immigration.

4. Continued Training: Participate in staff development and training opportunities provided by JFCS in order to maintain license and stay abreast of changes in policies and best practices.

5. Human Resources: Follow staff procedures outlined in employer handbook, attend all Immigration department meetings and other meetings as required, submit timesheets in a timely manner (weekly) and perform other job-related duties as instructed.
