New and growing podiatry office looking for highly functioning medical secretary/medical assistant to work at the front desk answering phones, scheduling appointments, checking in patients, checking out patients. Certified as a medical assistant, you will be cross-trained to perform medical assistant functions, depending on staffing needs. Exceptional customer service and ability to multi-task required. Knowledge of EMR required. Must be EMR proficient with excellent computer/typing skills and have high attention to details. One year of related work experience in a healthcare setting preferred.

Medical assistant responsibilities include rooming patients, updating histories, documenting chief complaints, accompanying the physician during the patient visit and ensuring proper documentation of the physician's findings and treatment plan in the EMR, setting up/cleaning up procedure trays.

Candidate must be able to multi-task in a fast paced environment.

Should be well-versed in medical terminology, friendly, dependable and patient-focused.

Bilingual either in Spanish or Portuguese a plus! High school diploma or equivalent with certification as a medical secretary or previous training in office administration. Graduate of a medical assistant program would be a plus as well! Prior experience as a medical secretary/receptionist and/or medical assistant preferred.

Responsibilities of the Health Center Assistant

Assist MDs caring for patients, including but not limited to taking/recording vital signs/height/weight/preparing patients for examination, preparing work areas, applying simple dressings (aseptic techniques), recording patient related procedures/tests in patients charts.

Answer and reroute incoming telephone calls, schedule patients using automated appointment scheduling process, interview incoming patients verifying identity, verify financial/insurance information, collect payments for services, and recording required data.

Insert patient related material as required; maintain separate logs/records of medical files; type supporting records.

Provide general clerical support throughout the organization as needed including, answering/rerouting calls, preparing data reports, compiling statistics.

Work with all members of the Health Care Team towards achieving coordinated patient centered care.

Maintain patient confidentiality at all levels of interaction.

Requirements of the Health Center Assistant

Medical Assistant Certificate preferred

Basic Life Support/CPR certification preferred

Demonstrates knowledge of the goals and objectives of patient care management plan

Clear diction and unhampered conversational skills for conversing with a multicultural, multiethnic and multilingual patient community is essential

Computer literacy is required

Familiarity with Physician Computer Network preferred but not required

Availability to work a flexible schedule, as needed
