Market Pavilion Hotel is seeking Barista | Quick Serve Representatives for our new, sweet and savory coffee shop located on Market Street at the Market Pavilion Hotel. All of our pastries, artisan breads, baked goods, desserts and savory food items are hand-crafted from absolute scratch by our Market Pavilion Hotel and Grill 225 culinary team.

POSITION DETAILS:

The ideal applicant must be a hands-on, quick-stepped, energetic and an enthusiastic individual; who will ensure the highest levels of quality, guest satisfaction, service and food.

The recipient of this Barista |Quick Serve Representative position will be part of our vibrant food and beverage service team. Recipients will have a strong desire to be guest focused with a willingness to please and exceed the expectations of our guests. Recipients must be caring, friendly, and hospitable with the ability to create positive and memorable interactions with each arriving guest.

Ideal recipients will have an established working career in a previous coffee shop, gourmet store, restaurant, resort or hospitality related industry. Applicants must have a stable work background with the demonstration of being able to maintain a hospitality related role or similar position with a previous employer for at least 1 full year. Recipients of this position will have a good food knowledge, must be detail oriented, confident in speech and highly motivated.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OVERVIEW:

The Barista | Quick Serve Representative will warmly receive guests at the ordering counter and personally interact with visiting patrons face-to-face .

Representatives will conduct food and beverage counter sales and ring up food, beverage and merchandise orders.

Representatives must be able to identify the guests interests as well as make food and beverage suggestions when needed.

Representatives must have a full knowledge of our full sweet and savory menu that is offered. Both sweet and savory menu item offerings will frequently change on a daily basis.

Representatives will conduct Point of Sale monetary transactions, collect and process payments from customers including: cash, digital payments, and credit cards. Candidate must have good money handling skills and must be able to count money back to the guest when providing change.

Representatives must follow company protocol for guest receipts and gathering emails for customer retention and future marketing.

Representatives will be responsible for making and dispensing basic coffee beverages as they are ordered such as: dark roast coffee, regular roast, espresso, caffe latte, and cappuccino.

Representatives will be responsible for brewing bulk coffees ie. dark roast, regular roast and decaffeinated coffee throughout the day.

Representatives are responsible for handling food products, which comprise 90% of the sales transactions throughout the day.

Representatives must be comfortable with handling artisan breads, baguettes, pastries, desserts, etc.

Representative will be responsible for picking these items from our food display cases upon request by the guest in a sanitary manner, and as specified by the company.

Representatives will be serving and scooping gelato, ice creams and sorbets upon request and as selected by the guest.

Representatives will be selling baked goods, sweet and savory grab and go items as well as other packaged foods and salad items.

Representatives will be responsible heating selected food items in our special super heat quick-oven as required before serving or upon request by the guest.

Representatives will be responsible for handling, cutting and packaging food items when necessary at time of the purchase by the guest.

Representatives will be required to package, wrap and bag food and beverage items as they are purchased.

Representatives must practice safe food handling procedures in accordance with S.C. DEHC regulations.

Representatives must follow the defined Company beverage recipes and procedures for bulk coffee production, specialty coffees to order as well as other specialty beverages.

Representatives must follow the defined Company food recipes and procedures as well as proper handling and reheating procedures with respect to specialty foods.

Representatives will be responsible for maintaining the retail merchandising portion of the store with respect to food and beverage restocking, organizing and arranging throughout the day.

Representatives will be responsible for ensuring all display foods are merchandised attractively and are presented to company standards throughout the day.

Representatives will be responsible for ensuring that the customer counter areas, window sills and floors are neat and clean throughout the day.

MUST BE ABLE TO PERFORM THE FOLLOWING ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL JOB FUNCTIONS DAILY:

Must be able to stand or alternatively move continuously in a confined area for 8 hours.

Must have the physical ability to climb, balance, bend, stoop, and kneel frequently.

Must have the physical ability to use both hands for continuous firm grasping with both hands for ice cream scooping, handling cutting tools, tongs, cutting boards, spoons, etc.

Must have the ability to comfortably use a cutting knife to slice sandwiches and baguette rolls.

Must have the physical ability to continuously carry up to 20-40 pounds of weight both on flat surfaces as well as up and down stairs for distances of up to 100 feet.

Must have the physical ability to occasionally lift up to 20-40 pounds of weight between the floor and waist, occasionally from the waist to above the shoulder. This weight will be comprised, but not limited to the following items: bulk food, beverage cases, cleaning and paper supplies, etc.

Must have the physical ability to occasionally push and pull various items such as bulk food, paper and cleaning supplies, cases of bottled beverages, trash bags and containers, weighing up to 50 pounds distances up to 150 feet.

Must have the physical ability to work at heights and on uneven surfaces frequently.

Must have the physical ability to tolerate any required protective equipment such as gloves, safety glasses and other protective equipment deemed appropriate on a continuous basis.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

High School degree or equivalent.

Associates degree or equivalent

BA/BS 4 year degree or foreign equivalency.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS AND OPERATIONAL SKILLS:

The ideal applicant will be an individual with dignity who prides themselves on professionalism and the ability to foster leadership and accountability in the individuals they work with.

Our ideal applicants will possess at least 1 year experience, as a staff member in a in a restaurant, café, coffee shop or similar environment. Recipients of this position must have a basic knowledge of various coffee beverages and customer service.

Recipients of this position must have an established work record, with the demonstrated ability to have held a position with a previous employer for at least 1 full year.

The ideal applicant will work with fellow staff members and will intersect all areas of the food and beverage operations which include: Grill 225, the Pavilion Bar.

Recipients of this position will be guest services driven, detail oriented, warm and amiable. Must have the sincere desire to serve and please our guests along with an attention to adhere to meticulous operational structure and detail.

Recipient must have the discipline to accept detailed structures, protocols and procedures that are utilized by the Market Pavilion Hotel to ensure consistent and quality associated guest interactions.

Recipients must have a good coffee knowledge with the technical ability to professionally present coffee beverages to guests. Previous experience working with and maintaining professional grade coffee equipment is preferred.

Knowledge of classic espresso beverages, latte art experience preferred although not required.

The Individual will be required to perform all functions of their job to a Next-Level and high standard. The recipient will be extensively trained and will be required to follow the company's defined written documentation and interactive conversational procedures to ensure that we are professionally exceeding the expectations of our guests.

Must have an excellent aptitude and willingness to efficiently utilize operational software that provides the framework for our company.

Must be extremely guest service oriented with an outgoing personality and willingness to constantly foster positive customer relationships. The demonstrated ability to provide absolute guest satisfaction should be the applicants primary core principle.

Must have the personal goal of continuous personal and operational improvement to perpetuate and stimulate operating efficiencies and company growth. Must be able to ensure that all staff members adhere to all company operational standards and policies.

SCHEDULE FLEXIBILITY:

The ideal candidate will have good schedule flexibility with the willingness to work weekdays, weekends and occasional holidays. Hours vary from morning (7am - 3pm) to evening (3pm - 11pm) Sunday - Thursday. Evening hours for Friday and Saturday (until 3am). Full-time applicants with wide-ranging schedule flexibility will be given first consideration for this position.

The individual must have the ability to work holidays such as Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas day, New

Years Eve.

This position will require an average workweek of 38-40 hours. Over time hours may apply based on business demands.

COMPENSATION:

Barista |Quick Serve Representative pay is $12.00 - $14.00 per hour plus gratuity. While gratuities vary by an individual's performance and are not guaranteed by our company, it has been our experience that in individual who has the capability for the work and who has the ability to make caring, professional and hospitable connections with their guests, will have the opportunity to make earnings that are at the top of the hospitality spectrum in Charleston.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT DRUG SCREENING PROCESS:

Pre-employment drug testing is a definite reality in our company, and is a mandatory requirement for all eligible candidates. Contingent upon the candidate's ability to advance beyond the interviewing and background screening process, eligible employees will then be instructed to report to our company's designated drug testing facility in person. An eligible candidate who successfully passes the drug screening test at our approved testing facility will then be provided a Passing Certificate of Documentation.
