2 Positions needed for General Laborers.
Description: This is skilled and unskilled position performing tasks involving physical labor at building, highway, and heavy construction projects. Employee may have temporary assignment to other departments as needed.
Key duties/responsibilities:
Clean and prepare sites, measure and mark out perimeter for underground utility work.
Perform tasks involving dig using shovels, hand tampers, and rakes; may check grades in construction of roads using a grade rod and string line.
Assist other workers setting up barricades and other traffic devices as needed.
Clean up around facilities.
Install sewer, water, and storm drain pipes.
Load, unload, and various materials, machinery, and tools, and distribute them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans and specifications.
Tend pumps, compressors, and generators to provide power for tools, machinery, and equipment, or to heat and move materials such as asphalt.
Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle, or feel objects and controls. Significant standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, reaching, handling, pushing and pulling. Work outdoors in different climates. Ability to lift up to 80 lbs.
