Position: Assistant Manager

Reporting Relationships: Supervisor “ General Manager l Direct Reports sales associates

Classification: Non Exempt

Status: Full Time

Job Summary: The Assistant Managers role is to function as the second-in-command to the General Manager, focusing on executing key operational responsibilities and in managing freight flow. This role supports operational functions related to Human Resources, including recruiting, interviewing, onboarding and scheduling. In addition, this position leads all aspects of visual merchandising, receiving and freight processing. As a leader and coach, the Assistant Manager is responsible to direct and motivate the entire team for the highest level of execution.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

STORE OPERATIONS

o Manages all aspects of store when General Manager is not present

o Role models Customer service expectations by executing and reinforcing service model principles

o Drives sales initiatives, discount programs, charitable programs and other company initiatives

o Store opening and closing procedures; performs Manager On Duty (MOD) responsibilities as required (including checkout needs)

o Reviews and understands financial data to support driving profitable sales and decision making

o Assists with payroll management: monitoring usage, editing time records for missed punches/paid time off and approval of time records

o Verifies and drives store compliance with required online training course completion

o Completes Associate work events for changes related to Associate status, position or pay

o Monitors visual graphics/fixtures and janitorial-related supply usage and applicable upcoming merchandise sets to anticipate order requirements; submits supply orders

o Oversees record retention and regulatory compliance

o Executes any safety and loss prevention-related audits

HUMAN RESOURCES

o Assists with recruiting, interviewing, onboarding and scheduling to balance Customer experience with task prioritization

o Manages sales floor and freight processing Associates, including performance feedback, coaching and annual appraisals

o Champion for staff training and development to enhance Associate performance, develop succession plans and promote recognition

o Partners with General Manager for Associate coaching/counseling, performance documentation and employee relations

o Requires staff compliance to all company policies and standards

MERCHANDISING & INVENTORY CONTROL

o Responsible for execution of store merchandising and visual standards

o Manages seasonal sets, transitions and packaway events

o Leads freight process for optimized labor usage with efficient product-to-shelf flow

o Leads execution of store inventory management process: weekly in-stock procedures, inventory adjustments and price changes

o Completes required promotional sets and displays for advertising events

TASK PRIORITIZATION & PLANNING

o Reviews all corporate communications and prioritizes/plans with store management team accordingly

o Focuses on freight flow efficiencies and selling experience: product presentation and standards, Customer shopping experience

o Coordinates completion of company directives by prioritization based on service balance with task deadlines

o Executes cash handling procedures: register balancing, maintaining safe fund and preparing/transporting bank deposits

o Ensures clean and safe environment for Associates and Customers throughout sales floor, stockroom, office(s) and restroom(s)

Minimum qualifications:

High School Graduate or equivalent

Minimum of 1-3 years of supervisory or management in retail experience preferred

Previous experience with merchandising or inventory management preferred
