This position provides mentorship, guidance and support to new and existing staff to assure they meet the high standards of care and complete tasks while developing relationships, providing quality customer service and meeting the needs of our residents in a caring, safe and efficient manner; and is responsible to perform according to location standards, procedures and individualized care plans.
CNA Mentor will receive start of shift report to pass onto CNA trainee, as needed, Communicate with Nurse Manager on CNA trainee progression, needs for improvements and/or educational training,
Provides on-the-job training for new, rehired or existing CNA, NA and RA employees.
Creates a positive environment for training employees to learn. A newly hired employee should be allowed a minimum of 5-10 shifts, increasing the new employee’s tasks as his/her progress and experience allows.
Brings new ideas to neighborhood nurse manager to help improve care on neighborhoods.
Assists with NCNA/CNA interviews, as needed.
Attends monthly/quarterly meetings with other Mentors & DON/ADON
May be required to train more than one student at a time
Provides feedback to employees, assisting them to formulate solutions to problems. Incorporates the restorative nursing philosophy into the training and orientation of new staff.
Is a role model and support staff for new hires, acts as trainer, mentor and works with new employees; continually provide ongoing and monitor the goal of reaching even higher expectations.
QualificationsCompletion of an accredited nursing assistant training program, the GSS Advanced CNA skills course or the GSS Mentor training program curriculum required. Prior certified nursing assistant work experience is required to be hired into this job.Ability to develop interpersonal relationships, foster teamwork and assist staff with cultural and social integration. Skill in adult learning styles techniques and incorporation of experience into learning. Ability to be a role model and support to staff.Developed advanced CNA skills through overview and completion of the Advanced CNA skills course, including education on Culture of caring, organizing work, residents rights and protections, person-centered skills, restorative cares, infection control and other selected clinical cares including vision and hearing, nutrition, hydration, swallowing and oral care, skin care, aging and special conditions and end of life care.The Good Samaritan Society offers an attractive, employee-approved benefits package for qualifying employees.
