Job Description

Our Dayton, NJ laboratory is looking for a Team Lead to join their Sample Management team. The function of the Team Lead is to oversee the daily production of a team of couriers in sample management, under the guidance of the Sample Management Supervisor and Manager. This person will lead by example and ensure the work being done by their team is completed in a safe, efficient and timely manner and is performed in compliance with SGS’ Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). This position is responsible for giving guidance to current employees as well as helping train new couriers. The Team Lead reports into the Sample Receiving Supervisor.

The Team Lead:

  • Coordinates workflow through the department to ensure turnaround times are met.
  • Works with the Sample Receiving Supervisor to manage staff and instrumentation resources to maximize sample throughput and ensure production targets are met.
  • Applies technical judgment to determine potential problems for samples processed by yourself or members of the team.
  • Helps implement best practices in the laboratory to maximize operational efficiency and maintains data quality that meets or exceeds industry standards.
  • Demonstrates good leadership through effective planning, delegating and empowering subordinates appropriately, and leading by example. Manages people and performance daily, acting quickly and decisively when required.
  • Ensures staffing levels are appropriate for sample volumes and that staff are properly trained to perform their assigned duties.
  • Works with the Sample Receiving Supervisor to oversee hiring and training competent courier personnel. Assists with the training of couriers to become productive members of the team.
  • Ensures the sample management team’s operating supplies inventory is appropriate for current workloads.
  • Appropriately follows safety requirements for the work that is done and ensures that your team members are also following these requirements. Immediately addresses safety problems as they arise in the sample management department (i.e. add any examples) to minimize exposure and maximize safe practices.
  • Actively promotes a strong culture of safe laboratory practices and the maintenance of a safe working environment.
  • Keeps supervisory and management teams informed of any potential problems.Provides information to supervisory and managerial staff as appropriate.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma
  • Minimum two years of college and/or applicable experience in operations/logistics preferred
  • Knowledge of locations and routes within the Tri-State area preferred
  • Knowledge of environmental testing protocols, regulations andcertifications related to the department
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills are a requirement of this position. Must have a solid understanding of process and workflow.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) is required as well as GPS fleet monitoring programs.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Demonstrates upmost level of integrity in all instances and shows respect towards others and towards company principles.
  • The ability to write and speak effectively using appropriate convention based on the situation; actively listens to others, asks questions to verify understanding, and uses tact and consideration when delivering feedback to others.
  • Excellent time management skills which includes the ability to balance multiple projects concurrently (with different deadlines).

Physical Demands:

  • Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks for sustained periods of time.
  • Standing, particularly for sustained periods of time.
  • Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving object horizontally from position to position.
  • Substantial movements (motion) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers in a repetitive manner.
  • Moderate physical activity performing somewhat strenuous daily activities of a primarily product/technical nature.
  • Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, pull, or otherwise move objects.

Work Hours:

  • Business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm
  • Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule
  • Longer hours, evenings and/or weekend work will be necessary frequently as job duties demand
