The Monitor Tech is under the supervision of the ICU RN, ICU Manager, and the House Supervisor. Must be proficient in reading cardiac rhythms, stay alert and attentive to all patients monitored, be able to work under stressful conditions, and maintain the ability to effectively communicate rhythm or vital sign deviances to the appropriate nursing staff. Must be aware of the escalation process for critical rhythm reporting and be willing to follow it properly. Must maintain all associated logs and other paperwork throughout the day. Must demonstrate a willingness to assume responsibility for the efficient and effective delivery of clerical services when there is no available unit secretary. Must be familiar with hospital policies and procedures. The employee is subject to call back and overtime as required by the hospital.Receives telemetry orders and inputs patient data to the monitor that corresponds with the designated telemetry number, in a timely mannerInitiates telemetry by verifying telemetry orders with admitting staff after telemetry is placed on the patientMeasures, prints, and documents rhythm strips on each monitored patient at the start of each shiftEnsures that one Monitor Tech at the least is constantly surveying the telemetry monitors at all timesNotifies appropriate nursing staff of any changes witnessed on the monitorsReports to the charge nurse about urgent issues once that patient's nurse has been notifiedMaintains all logs throughout the day ensuring they are up-to-dateCollects and cleans discharged telemetries in a timely mannerProvides other hospital staff with telemetry troubleshooting assistance as neededMonitors telemetry orders to ensure that orders are submitted initially and every 24 hours in the computerRecognizes life-threatening conditions and reacts appropriately to each situationUses written reports to assist with verbal reports to oncoming staffUses AIDET at all timesMaintains Positive Helpful AttitudePerforms clerical duties when necessaryPerforms related responsibilities as required or directed. EDUCATION: High School graduate or GED requiredLICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION:BLS certification must be obtained within the orientation period, and certification must be kept current while in this position.EXPERIENCE:One (1) year experience with clerical duties, computer skills. Understanding of medical terminology preferred.
