OverviewMRI Tech, MRIPRN/OCCPosition Summary:The MRI Technologist is responsible for maintaining a safe MRI environment for patients, peers and all individuals through direct supervision of zone 3 and zone 4. They obtain high quality scans in a timely basis and maintain a kind, courteous manner at all times to patients, family members and co-workers.Responsibilities

Performing procedures or examinations under the order of a licensed medical practitioner for diagnostic interpretation or therapeutic intervention.

Providing patient instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation and minimize anxiety, including the monitoring of patients by audio/visual means during exams.

Prepares patients for procedures according to MR.I safety policy.

Applying principles of magnetic resonance safety to minimize risk to patient, self and others.

Selects and operates the magnetic resonance system, surface coils, physiologic gating devices and associated equipment to achieve desired results.

Positions patient and equipment to best demonstrate the anatomic area of interest, respecting the patient’s ability, safety and comfort.

Immobilizes patients as required for appropriate examination.

Selects appropriate pulse sequences with consideration given to established protocols and other factors influencing data acquisition parameters.

Performs venipuncture; starts and maintains intravenous (IV) access per orders when applicable.

Identifies, prepares and/or administers medications as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner.

Completes and verifies accurate informed consents and permits.

Assists licensed independent practitioner with interventional procedure, including time outs according to policy.

Practices aseptic techniques and observation of universal precautions.

Evaluates images and data for technical quality.

Manipulates and reconstructs digital data for display, ensuring proper identification is evident.

Assumes responsibility for provision of physical and psychological needs of patients during procedures.

Initiates basic life support action when necessary.

Supervises peers and/or students where applicable.

Applies the principle of patient safety during all aspects of radiographic procedures, including double IDs, falls, transport and hand washing.

Assists in inventory control.

Proficient in all clerical duties, radiology information systems and PACS.

Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.

Performs other duties as assigned.

QualificationsMinimum Education: None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority.Minimum Experience: Must have successfully completed a radiography educational program that is accredited by a mechanism acceptable to the ARRTLicensure Requirement: Must have and maintain Tennessee StateARRT (R) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMCTB) licensure.
